To begin with, all Lodge's products are great. For a single person household the 2 quarts capacity Dutch Oven is just right. Not an over kill and is easy to handle. For a senior the weight as compared to a 5 quarts with contents is on the heavy size to use including cleaning and seasoning after each use.
Already a cast iron lover I bought this Dutch oven specifically for baking my no-knead bread. When I first pulled it out of the box I thought, "No way! this is going to be too small" but I'm glad I tested it out first, it's the PERFECT size. The bread rises more up than out forming a really nice shape getting more uniform slices from end to end. Personally, I always strip off Lodge's soybean pre-seasoning with oven cleaner (the pre-seasoning is weak and I've learned it can possibly strip off while cooking). I then use flax seed oil (hardest drying oil) and the oven method 3-4 times. After that only use will get it really non-stick.
I ordered this pot because it's just me and my husband now and I needed a small pot for our soups and stews and this pot is perfect, it can hold enough for 4 people but it's perfect for 2 people and have enough left for another meal, a great addition to my cast iron collection
Lodge cast iron products are top notch! This is my second one of these having the other for several years. I use this often to cook a variety of things and it's a perfect size for a small portion for my wife and I. The lid fits tight and as always Lodge cast iron is made with perfection in the USA!
I have had one of these 2 quart cast iron pots for several years now, and I decided I should get another one. It is perfect for smaller dishes. I love my cast iron cookware! Some people don't like them because they think they are too hard to take care of. I hand wash my cast iron with mild detergent, dry it thoroughly, and then if it looks like the seasoning is dulling, I rub a small amount of oil on the inside to keep it seasoned. Cast iron cooks so well, and I don't have to worry about chemicals leaching into my food, which is a great concern for me. Also, lodge is made in the USA which is also a big plus for me! I would recommend this pot to everyone.
I have purchased 3 Lodge Cast Iron Skillets, One 5 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven and this 2 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven from Walmart in the past two years. I put my roasters that I always used and my coated skillets in my basement never to be used again. Cast iron is the way to go if you want real flavor when cooking or frying. Plus you use less heat. Great for soups or anything you want to cook. Easy to clean. Non stick!
Very nice cute pot. Makes best rice. Also I read reviews that people like to make home made bread in it, makes perfect loaf. I got me a book named: My Bread: The Revolutionary No-Work, No-Knead Method by Jim Lahey and I am going to make some breads in it. I think I will be using that Dutch oven often. And price was right as well. I am happy with it.
I love cast iron specially from Lodge. This size is perfect for roast my pork loin because is high enough , size is wright for two people. My skillet is also good but in this case this is better because is a smaller size and it has the tap that makes food cook fast and preserves the juices.
Took a chance that this pot would work as a small deep fryer. Wow! Was I impressed! It's hefty design kept the oil at the right temperature when my stainless pots would struggle. Hello, calamari.
I recommend seasoning again before using for the first time. Rub in a light coating of Crisco (or equivalent product) on all surfaces, wipe clean and put into an oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour. Allow to cool down and wipe on another coating before using or storing. This makes a great dutch oven for baking artisan bread. If you line it with parchment paper before baking, no cleanup should be necessary.
