Good for sourdough

Todd April 23, 2026

I purchased this dutch oven for baking sourdough bread and it has performed well. It is a perfect size for a basic loaf. It can handle the highest heat I use: 500 degrees. There is just a loop handle, so no heat limits in the oven. I have had no issues with cleaning since I haven't done anything besides a light oiling in the inside.

Nice oven

stix503 November 23, 2012

This was bought specifically for baking no knead bread. The loaves turn out beautifully. I season the oven after every use and I have no sticking and minimal clean-up. Cast iron is heavy so be cautious. I have made a big pot of baked beans and they turned out great also. You will love this oven.

It's not just for Soups!

Nona August 30, 2013

We have wanted one of these for a while, and I have to say that it fried the best Fried Chicken ever! We own several cast iron pans and love each one for different things. It's is so easy for the clean up and with a splatter screen on top, my stove top stayed pretty grease free! Love, Love, Love it!!

Great medium-large dutch oven

Daniel April 20, 2023

Good quality as expected from Lodge. Convenient size, fits on the grill with the lid closed but big enough to fit a whole 3lb bag of potatoes. The factory seasoning is great, but I went ahead and put two more coats on. Especially important on the inside of the lid, which gets a lot of condensation when cooking. My only complaint about this is that the self-basting bumps on the inside of the lid are annoying if you oil with a paper towel, they tear it up. It's a minor complaint though.

Perfect to Bake Artisan Breads!

DebraAshkar December 5, 2013

No-Knead Crusty Artisan Bread Cook Time: 45 minutes Yield: 1 loaf Ingredients 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups luke-warm water 1-2 tsp sea salt, depending on your preference 1 tsp yeast In a large bowl, stir together the flour, salt and yeast. Add the water and using a wooden spoon stir together until the mixture resembles a shaggy dough. Cover dough with a plastic wrap and let sit in room temperature for 8-18 hours. Dough will bubble up and rise. After dough is ready, preheat oven to 450 F. Turn the dough onto a well-floured surface and with floured hands form the dough into a ball. Cover with the plastic wrap and let the dough rest. While dough is resting, put your dutch oven into the preheated oven for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes are up carefully remove the dutch oven and with floured hands place the bread dough into it. (You can put a piece of parchment under it if your dutch oven doesn't have an enamel coating, but I used the cast iron LODGE dutch oven and the bread comes right out, parchment paper is not necessary.) Replace the cover and bake for 30 minutes covered. Then remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes uncovered. Bread will be golden, crusty and delicious! Make sure to wipe out your dutch oven with paper towels, then take a clean paper towel and oil it with vegetable oil. No need to wash with soap and water after making bread, though you probably want to wash it after making stew or soup. After washing, dry thoroughly, then oil it with a paper towel. This dutch oven will last longer than you will!

Love my Logic.

YellowCorn December 17, 2013

I was excited to receive my Lodge Logic 7 Qt. I used it yesterday to make Mexican rice, and the rice came out better than ever. I baby the pot, heat low, then high, to low. I wiped it clean with water, then oil it with some olive oil on low heat. I don't know about the durability of the pot, I have to use it many more times before I review the durability long term. This the best cast iron pot, but you have to take care of it. Yes, Yes, I would recommend it.

great product great price

Aflac97 October 7, 2014

I had forgotten how wonderful a dutch oven is to cook with. Retains so much more moisture than other means of cooking that you will be inclined to use more liquid than you will need. Stays warm a long time and is hot all over. Person needs to be aware of that. Some instructions with purchase is recommended for first time users so they don't accidently burn themselves. I went with this rustic look as it is indestructible. Enamel coverings are prettier but can be damaged during cooking and cleaning.

Except for Damage, Would be Perfect Cook Pot

NorthIdaho November 9, 2022

Bought the 5 quart Dutch oven and it arrived yesterday. Cast iron is definitely not indestructible. Today as I rinsed and dried it before adding a bit more oil to season it after its trip, I saw that one of the handles has a long chunk broken out. I checked the box inside the shipping box and neither looks abused. We're iced in so trying to return it is not in the cards. Hoping the exposed inner membrane won't affect cooking. Dang ... hate damage. Ok, you all want to know about the item, not my complaint. I cook by sight, not measure, so wasn't sure if I needed the 5 or 7 quart. The non-stick pot I've used for 20 years is really too big so I gambled and chose 5 quart. I love the size. Ideal for cooking for 2 to 4 people with up to six for soups and beans. WIN! It is heavy and pretty much all I want to try to move empty. Have your destination cleared and ready for it when you move it. It sits flat on my electric glass burner. No wobble. It appears to heat evenly. Lid sits securely. Chucking out a few old pots and skillets as this looks very multipurpose. Looking forward to receiving the skillets I ordered, too. Rated at 4 stars for Damage. Otherwise would be a solid 5 stars.

PLEASE SEASON BEFORE COOKING!

OLA January 17, 2014

I purchased this because of the price. I felt it was a great deal for a cast iron Dutch oven, yet I was disappointed with the appearance. There was rust under the lid, and the pot itself had some discoloration. I can not stress this enough....SEASON! SEASON! SEASON before cooking! I know the box says 'PRESEASONED'....NOPE! To keep from ruining your food, season this pot well, especially the lid!!!! I was a bit surprised at the product because this is a LODGE..they are known for the quality of their cast iron...this purchase? Quality not too good! I have not used it that much because it was just recently purchased. I will not use it until I can get it 'seasoned' properly.
