Was looking for a large dutch oven to create large batches of food for canning. The 6.5 quart fits the bill perfectly. Just finished a large batch of chili. The dutch oven is plenty big. I was able to have lunch and still put up 6 quarts of chili for a rainy day.
Of the few I do have, so far, this is my favorite. I sat it next to the LeCreuset, and have to say, for the price, the Lodge is leading. I wasn't in the market for anything, I do receive emails on sales, etc., from Walmart, and there Lodge was, move over and make room I say to Viking and LeCreuset because you have a new addition to the family. Price, quality (I have several Lodge's) love this color, may buy another one. This is large enough for a whole Chicken, a large Pot Roast, I may not use it for a while (so the husband thinks), but very happy with purchase. Thank you Walmart for great prices, quality, fantastic vendors, perfectly packaged and delivered by FedEx.
Beautiful pot. Can't wait to use it. I have been wanting one for a while. Quality is just as good as the top name brand pot's but a fraction of the cost. Not heavy. Plenty of room for your cooking needs. I could have gone even bigger. Pot arrived well packed with no damage.
This is my first Lodge piece, and I can't believe I waited this long. I was hesitant about buying this pot because of the dark color, but it is beautiful! It looks gorgeous on my stove. It cooks like a dream too! Very easy to clean. It is heavy, but that is to be expected.
I've been very happy with Lodge products. This Dutch Oven is replacing a Tramontina that has lost its luster (literally). This Lodge has a metal knob on the lid, allowing cooking up to 500 degrees in the oven. Also has those drip bumps (don't know what they are called) on the interior of the lid. They help with self basting, and are similar in design to Le Creuset. Just a beautiful design and color, would look beautiful on your counter. Fantastic price from Walmart. Made in China.
I really like this dutch oven. It just the right size for the soups, stews, and chili that I like to make, with enough leftovers for future enjoyment. This color is more of a manly color than some of the others available. I have other Lodge products and love how well the foods cook in them. Hard to beat the price for the value you get.
I love this dutch oven. I got it in green. At the same time my mom gave me a smaller Le Creuset, and I can tell the difference, but not by that much.. a 3 liter Le Crusette is about 350$ and this is about 60 bucks there is no comparison. Much better deal on this
First four and a half stars! Smaller footprint and more capacity than the 40 year old chipped Copco Dutch Oven it replaced. Much better heat retention as well. Have made three dishes so far and it is better than I wished for. Very glad I didn't spend a great deal more money on Le Creuset. 1/2 star off for it being quite heavy; but I'm sure that weight helps the heat retention so both a plus and minus.
Chipped around the top lip after each use and I use wooden utensils. Four chips, some small, some large (see photo) in the first month making different sauces and soups. Doesn't affect the cooking for the most part, but every time I see those chips I get annoyed. I had a cheap old Sandra Lee Dutch Oven for ten years that I loved but I gave it away when I bought this. Wish I had it back!
The size and color (merlot) of this dutch oven are perfect. The 6.5 qt size will easily handle a big roast or an extra large batch of spaghetti sauce or chili. And the color is a beautiful rich, deep hue. BUT. And it's a big but. Eleven days in, after one perfect roast and a gentle washing, the top rim of the pan and corresponding area of the lid are showing rust spots. That's a deal breaker for me, as the enamel coating should absolutely prevent the formation of rust. I plan to contact Lodge directly to get their spin on this. Is it a known manufacturing defect that affects all the pans? Or only some of them? What is their recommendation? Hopefully they'll have a good solution. I'd like to try a replacement if possible, but would be hard pressed to keep one that rusts. Unfortunately, that probably means a return transaction for Walmart.
