I was intimidated about using a cast-iron skillet. I’ve been a Teflon coated gal for 45 years of cooking. I am pleasantly surprised and now in love with my cast-iron. Frying up some chicken breasts, just butter, salt and pepper. Delicious on top of salad.
I bought this size pan because I have a recipe for a blueberry buttermilk skillet pancake. the pan came pre-seasoned, so I was able to use it right away. Easy cleanup.
These are the perfect size for my frittata recipes. They are not too heavy to lift and easy to clean. You can start the cooking on the stove then move it right to the oven.
Amazing cast iron pan...I love the handle on the other end of the pan...very easy to pick up and cooks amazing food and it is ver easy to clean...Lodge cast iron is the best I will un no other...
I am new to cast iron cookware. So I am just getting started with this skillet. So far, so good. I particularly like the sear it puts on meats. The skillet at 10.25" is appropriate for what I need in a skillet. The skillet itself is easy to handle and store. So all I need now is a few good recipes!
I recently read an article promoting the advantages of cast iron cookware as opposed to the nonstick type. Since my last cookware had some scrapes in it, I decided to look for the cast iron cookware which was recommended by most health magazines. I found these pots and pans on another website for a relatively reasonable price. I checked Walmart and found them at an unbelievable price. The shipping was good and the product arrived quickly and in great shape. They do require a little more upkeep than the nonstick but I'm glad I upgraded. The bonus in all of this is that they're made in the US by a 100 year old American company.
I hesitated buying this because I'm am disabled and thought it would be too heavy but the extra handle takes care of that. I also have a glass top stove and people have said not to use cast iron and I disagree. It's fine as long as you don't move the pan around more than necessary. When I first got it I coated it with coconut oil (any oil will work) and let it sit for a few days. I then used a paper towel to remove any excess oil. My first dish was fried potatoes and onions and yes, some of the potato stuck to the pan but I turned the heat off, covered the pan and the moisture from the steam released the stuck potatoes after about 15 minutes and the potatoes were still nice and hot. Learn to use cast iron and you will forever love it like no other pan and I've had my share. I never use soap, I just let it soak and wash it with a soft cloth. Much healthier than non-stick pans and cook better than stainless steel. I use low heat and I now pan bake foods like cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Good eatin' for sure!
Great little cast iron pan perfect for a couple, useless for a family. Lodge makes a quality item; however do not believe it is truly “seasoned”! After washing in hot water WITHOUT soap (you can add salt, if you want something to scour with), dry the pan and set it on your range at medium high. Add about a tablespoon of a vegetable oil like canola, safflower or peanut oil (NOT olive oil or coconut oil) and heat to a shimmer. Then take a pad of paper towel or clean thick, white cloth and rub in the oil until nearly all but the very slightest amount of oil remains. It should appear to be dry of all oil, otherwise it could make the pan sticky. If you follow this cleaning process after the next 4 or 5 uses, you will have the perfect non-stick surface that makes cooking on cast iron such a pleasure!
It said preseason. It's not. The surface is very rough so everything sticks. I seasoned it according to the company directions. Did it twice. Still sticks..heading for the scrap pile. I noticed many LODGE pans at the flea mkt Sunday. That screams volumes.
Arrived with rust on 2 areas that had defective/chipped areas around the rim of the Lodge cast iron skillet. It was very roughly cast also. Disappointed! This was ordered online and will never do that again, gotta see and feel the quality, whoever selected it to be sent out had to see the rusted cracks, but sent it anyway. No quality control or responsibility. Never seen chipped or defective areas on a cast iron skillet! Been using cast iron cookware for over about 60 years. Still have my original cast iron skillet too.
