You’re making a smart purchase!

Bob January 22, 2026

These are just as good as the ball jars. One hundred percent. My concerns after purchasing a cheaper alternative to a well known, good product were squashed after inspecting them. They are solid. I’ve pressure cooked mine several times at 15 psi and there are no signs of stress. The only difference between these and the name brand is these don’t have ball scrolled across the front of the jars, they have no gross over-advertisements to be found, that’s a bonus in my humble opinion.

A fine substitute for... that other brand.

V May 30, 2025

I have not used the mainstays version extensively for canning, but I have yet to have one crack during the heating process, nor have I had one lose its seal. If Walmart has run out of your favorite brand (if this isn't your favorite already), these will do nicely!

Must Buy

Akash July 22, 2025

I recently purchased these mason jars from Walmart, and I’m very happy with them. They arrived well-packaged with no breakage. The glass is thick and sturdy, the lids seal tightly, and they’re perfect for [e.g., storing dry goods, making overnight oats, or DIY crafts]. I’ve also washed them in the dishwasher and had no issues. Great quality at a reasonable price—definitely recommend!

During the sterilization process for my canning jars, two of them broke immediately. The bottoms just blew out and I had to throw them away. I’m just glad that they didn’t have any of my food in them. The rest of the jar seem to be doing OK, but I was disappointed to lose two jars.

Buy Ball or Kerr

justusemyname October 23, 2025

Spend the extra couple of bucks and by Ball or Kerr. I have been canning for 30 years - so I am well versed on how to can. On my last batch of carrots, 4 of 7 didn't seal. I had the same issue the day before with the lids not sealing. I also had one of the jars shatter - brand new - when canning green beans,

These were not priced far off from the brand name jars, and these were terrible. One was so poorly made the glass was paper thin on one side, shattered into my puree I was canning. Lids were crumpling during the canning process. It was a nightmare. Would NEVER buy again. I spent hundreds of dollars on these jars and they ruined my day and my project.

don't waste your time or $ go with ball brand.

Theresa August 27, 2025

so far I have used 4 of these jars to pressure can chicken stock and 2 of them havent sealed! that's half so far. followed suit with the issue I had with the pint jar lids of the same brand not sealing. home canning can be labor intensive and there's nobody I've ever heard say they enjoy reprocessing jars that didn't seal, nor have they said they have the time to do that. will throw out the mainstays lids and opt for the ball lids that I know will seal. saved a dollar or two, maybe, by purchasing this brand. Now to spend 20 or 30 dollars on lids for 7 cases of jars! that's after an entire case was left out of my order, and the integrity of the other jars is questionable since there was damage during shipping. walmart quality and customer service has gone way down hill in recent years.

These jars shattered in the water bath!! I have been canning for years and have always used Ball or Kerr. I thought with how high prices have gone I would save a few bucks. HUGE MISTAKE!!! In all the years I have NEVER had a jar shattered in the water bath. I sterilize and keep the jars warm in the oven. I keep the brine at a warm temp. I keep everything balanced with temps for the optimal canning to water bath process. This way there is never a chance of damaging a jar. I did these the same way I have been doing it for years! Some jars shattered and it caused the ring lids to literally bend so the water bath also went into the other jars. They were all bad anyway from fricking glass all over in the bath. I have a large aluminum pressure canner that I also use for regular water bath canning. Those cannot have salt in them. Salt causes major damage. It will very quickly eat through it and cause damage. I had to feel all through my canner and the shirt while the salt and brine was exposed in the canner caused it to feel like it was scratched up everywhere. Thankfully it isn’t so bad I have to get rid of it. If it’s too bad they are no longer safe to use. It’s a $120 dollar canner that has been damaged. THESE ARE A NIGHTMARE!!! I also lost about 8-10lbs of cucumbers that I grew myself. That i started from seed in my house in February. It is now August and I got a major harvest from the 8 plants I have been loving and caring for all this time. I lost it all! DO NOT BUY THESE!! I think people who have given 5 stars haven’t opened anything they have made yet in order to find them not sealed and other issues. DO NOT BUY THESE!! DO NOT BUY THESE!! You will regret it when you lose everything!

Every last one of these jars did NOT seal. I purchased 2 cases (24 jars w/lids) to can my tomato harvest. 50 pounds wasted!! I have been canning for years and follow all the recommended safety quidelines and have never had a more costly failure. wsste of money on jars, waste of time preparing, and waste of all those organic tomatoes! Such a disappointment!

Not good for Canning

Keith August 26, 2025

For anyone actually canning I would highly recommend not getting these. These were substituted in instead of the ball jars. I was doing very large batches of spaghetti sauce. 24 quart jars with Ball not one issue. 12 of the Mainstay jars 11 with no seal and one shattered in canner. You can place a flat piece of metal or what not on the top of the jar and see gaps where the glass doesn't meet flat with it. For general storage they may be good.
