I am working out of state and can't use my real smoker at an apartment, so ordered this. My first thought was "I'll get all the side eye and judgmental looks of a pellet grill user without the expense". After an easy assembly and set up I turned it on and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it heats up and how consistent that heat is. I've smoked pork ribs, sausage, prime rib, veggies and a pan of beans. All came out very well. There are a few negatives. The max temperature is only 275 degrees, which is fine for smoking but you can't sear with it. You have to monitor the chips regularly, I normally add chips every 45 minutes, and the little cylinder where you add chips on the side is flimsy and has already become bent and hard to use. Fortunately I can just pull the chip pan out and load chips directly. Overall I feel it is a great value, works better than I expected and it is light enough that even a 64 year old man like myself can pick it up and move it around without a dolly. I highly recommend this smoker.
I have had other companies' smokers and grills, but this one, well, it just takes the entire cake and puts all the others to shame easily!! I purchased it in late February along with all the different flavors of wood chips but didn’t even open it until 2 weeks ago cause I was waiting for warmer weather here in Oklahoma (HOOK'EM 🤘) 🤣. Anyway, I've used it twice now, the first time was to smoke premium baby back ribs using cherry chips which I've had before from anywhere, and while it was smokin' I had an idea and put 4 small ears not wrapped of 🌽shucked and basted them with extra virgin olive oil and fresh cracked pink sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper and I have to say that was the best 🌽 I've ever eaten. As for the ribs I used my own rub mixture and 30 minutes before the ribs were done I brushed Head Country BAR-B-Q sauce and it made a crust on both sides. The last thing was a premium pork butt and shredded it after it was done with cherry chips and a different rub of my own and made pulled pork out of it. Both times the smoker was well above my expectations and when I need another I won't buy anything but Masterbuilt. So yeah, I highly suggest their product otherwise you're cheating yourself. Thanks, Masterbuilt. PS: I wanted a way for it to be mobile, so I found a square steel adjustable I'd call it a dolly with casters all the way around with each wheel being able to lock them down so it doesn't move and that was and is a game changer!! Also, make it easy on yourself and use apple cider vinegar and water 50/50 mixture to clean the instead with some steel wool it works exceptionally well, and clean the outside with soap and water but easy on both. Happy smokin and best of luck. Oh, the digital part for setting the temp and time works extremely well and I didn’t put my chips in with the chip installer, I just pulled the chip tray out and did it that was cause the chips the other way only last 30-45 minutes then you have to add more but doing it the way I did I could put at least double the amount if not more.
We ordered this for my husband's birthday and the first one we got delivered was damaged and had dents all over. We had no trouble sending it back and reordered almost the same day! So glad we stuck with this brand! We have only had it a couple of weeks but have already used it a few times! Its easy to use, lightweight for easy moving and we just love it. We also bought the 30 in cover from Walmart. Very happy with this purchase!
Great smoker, lots of room. Easy to use.
This item works so well and at the price it such a great buy. I am smoking burgers n cheese n chicken and my favorite bacon… holds the temp perfectly.. great product at a great price
I borrowed a 10 yr old version of this smoker from a friend so I could try it before buying one. I used his on 3 occasions and had great results every time. His does not have glass in the door, but otherwise I wanted one just like it. I could not find one with the same rack supports like his. His has wire supports for the racks with more placement options, and these new ones have pressed sheet metal with no choice at all as to the positon of the racks. Additionally, the way they make this unit, you can't use rods to hang things like sausages, because the rack supports are just a stamped slot with very shallow angled transitions above and below, so you are not able to put a wooden rod on them. There are also no hooks on the ceiling of it, and the top rack is so low that you lose a lot of volume and height for hanging if you use those slotted supports. Moving on to the next problem, his had a steel wood tray which was larger in area and sat on the burner. This unit has a wire support rack which keeps the wood tray so high, the wood never smokes. It certainly won't smoke if you're trying to cold-smoke something. I was attempting to do snack sticks at 100F and 130F ,and this thing doesn't produce one whisp of smoke. After 10 hours, the wood was hardly discolored and the inside of the unit had not a single stain of discoloration. The only smoke I got was from the wood that fell out of the pan onto the burner... I removed the wire-support for the wood pan and simply sat it on the burner and now I finally get some smoke. The wire rack might be ok for someone who's usign this as a cooker/oven. But I'm not, I'm trying to SMOKE the meat. Yes, later I'll "Cook" the meat in it, but for the first steps, this unit as shipped from the factory is worthless. Moreover, I have to prop the door open to get enough heat to make smoke even with the pan on the burner. I suspect in summer that may get worse. The glass door is great, and the insulation of this thing is fantastic. So, from that respect it's a wildly efficient unit. A 5 hour smoke on my buddies unit cost <$0.25 shown on a meter. This one with the door open to make smoke is using WAY more electricity for the same job. The instructions for this are useless. That's especially bad considering you have to figure out how to make it smoke to begin with. Virtually all cured meats will be smoked at low temps, and this needs a lot of help to make it work. Since that's my primary use for it, I'd have almost been better off buying a used one... No question, the 10 year old one I borrowed was 10x easier to get good results in. Not to say I can't "Make" this thing work, but I would have expected it to work straight from the box, and that isn't the case. Especially consider they're the same unit, just supposedly this one has been "improved". It's not an improvement...
Completely different from my first masterbuilt 30, no light,no meat probe, no remote I can actually feel the heat outside the box. The wood chips won't start smoking until it reaches 250°
Fresh out of the box the smoker was damaged and bent on both sides of the bottom like it had been crushed. On first use , we noticed the seal on the door isn’t working and it’s losing smoke through the top of the door. It’s a deal but this is only the first use and we have already noticed 2 pretty big issues .
after using it three separate times, I noticed that the insulated coating that’s on the smoker was melting separating from the door frame the metal bubbling admitting smoke. I returned it. I wouldn’t recommend it. The coding melts and admit smoke into your smoker. I don’t know what kind of toxic product that is. It’s a thermal coding that’s supposed to adhere on the medal and stay on it at all temperatures I used at 235°. I had to stop the smoker and throw the meat away not knowing if it’s toxic. I’m not very happy then I had FedEx pick it up from my home. You don’t get a refund for three weeks when they pick it up. If I would’ve brought it to the store I’d already get a refund and bought another smoker from another seller I have pictures to prove what I’m saying is true. this name brand other smokers the thermostat that tells you the temperature of your oven doesn’t even work for example if your temperature is 275° the smoker temperature tells you it’s 180 don’t they test their products I wouldn’t buy a master ever again.
I would like to give this a good review but the digital control panel died after using it once. Now I can't control temperature or set a timer.
