My family buys McCormick spices often so I was excited to try a free sample of Organic Poultry Spice provided by McCormick. First, a random pro that may seem odd to some. The spice was double sealed. It had both a sticker on the lid that had to be broken, and then also had a cap seal inside to be removed. I'm really finicky about food safety, and most spices don't seem to offer that double layer of protection. This made me feel really good about the spice never being opened before. Second, the flavor profile is super savory. It's definitely sage forward and my family loved it. We usually use McCormick Montreal Chicken when we grill or bake chicken. Compared to that, the poultry spice is significantly different. The Montreal Chicken is saltier, has a bit of a citrus flavor profile, and has a zing to it. The poultry seasoning is more earthy, and has a classic baked chicken or roasted turkey flavor. It tasted very much like a traditional turkey dinner, or my mom's baked chicken with stuffing. We loved it on the grill because the seasoning actually stayed on! I'm using this for our baked chicken from now on, and will use it for our Thanksgiving turkey.
This seasoning blend has ALMOST everything I put on my chicken, except for salt. That doesn't deter me from still giving it 5 stars though. The blend gives your food a rich, savory depth with hints of sage, thyme & even nutmeg. I found it to be even good on my roasted vegetables. Which made meal prep even easier because I just seasoned the entire dish before slapping it in the oven. Only thing I had to add was salt. So it's probably a good blend for those watching their sodium levels. I also like that a little goes a long way too. The value for the product is great & I will continue to get this poultry seasoning every time I make a dish for now on.
This McCormick Gourmet Organic Poultry Seasoning added the perfect amount of spice to a plain chicken breast. It is a very fine blend, but stays mixed very well. Just beware when you sprinkle it on your food, as it comes out a bit fast when you are using it. This product was a nice addition to our spice cabinet and even better that it is organic! I would definitely recommend this to everyone who cooks as it is so versatile!
New packaging but the same wonderful ingredients, and gluten-free which my daughter and I need. She and I prepped our Thanksgiving 16 lb turkey, using this poultry seasoning along with other herbs and spices, and gluten free Kosher salt to prepare a dry rub. My "extra ingredient": about 1/8th tsp nutmeg. Also added freshly zested organic lemon. Blended the rub into softened unsalted butter, then worked the mixture under the skin, all over the bird and in the cavity. Smelled so good! Brushed oil all over the breast and legs, then sprinkled the balance of the rub to cover the entire bird (had placed it into the pan which had carrots, onions, garlic, AND fresh poultry spices). Placed fresh herbs, a quartered lemon and onion and 6 medium cloves of garlic into the cavity. The bird absorbed all of that goodness uncovered in the fridge overnight. Before placing into oven, added 1/2 cup Pino Grigio (white) and same amount of low sodium organic chicken broth into bottom of the pan (to help make great gravy and to maintain moisture while roasting). Convection roasted for 2 hrs 10 minutes (undisturbed), tenting with aluminum for last 25 minutes. Let it rest on the counter (bird continues cooking); served about 90 minutes later with side dishes and incredible gravy. WOW! The entire turkey was devoured by 4 adults, 2 teen boys, and 2 young grandchildren. Definitely include this McCormick seasoning into your next turkey or chicken dry rub. Our daughter was pleased that I had purchased an extra bottle for her to take home. Like me, she incorporates it into meals year round. I was thrilled to have found i here on Amazon because it was HALF the price of wha the markets wanted for thiss and other brands. Do yourself a favor and ORDER it.
McCormick Poultry Seasoning is easy to use and gives food a nice, simple flavor. It tastes like herbs such as sage and thyme, which go well with chicken and turkey. You can also add it to soup or stuffing. It's not too strong, just a basic seasoning that makes food taste better without much effort. Good for everyday cooking, especially if you want something quick and classic.
This seasoning makes the chicken I cook taste quite gourmet. It has a savory herb flavor from thyme, sage, oregano, black pepper, and nutmeg, so it works really well on roasted chicken, turkey, potatoes, and even soup! I like that it's organic with the spices already blended, so I don't have to pull out different spices just to make dinner taste good. A little goes a long way, and it gives my food a delicious homemade flavor without being too salty either.
The McCormick Gourmet Organic Poultry Seasoning was very good. I used it to season the chicken that I was making in a stir fry to give it some extra flavoring. This will also taste great on the homemade chicken noodle soup that I make. I highly recommend
I want to start my review by saying that McCormick seasonings and blends is a brand that I have come to trust for their dedication to consistent quality and their poultry seasoning doesn't miss the mark. The seasoning alone in my opinion is not enough to make chicken by itself. This seasoning shines when you combine it with more seasonings or a bbq rub etc. When you try it from the bottle the flavor and texture gives you that of something you need to mix with something else for it to be complete. For example adding the seasoning to a curry mix or the flour batter for fried chicken. What I did was I smoked a whole chicken, I put down evoo first and then added the McCormicks seasoning first, then I added a bbq rub on top of it. I especially added the seasoning to the underside of the bird I spatchcoked because that side takes a lot of high heat direct.and can sometimes burn of the rub and flavor. In the end it turned out to be a great tasting chicken with flavor throughout. Again, it does need a little pepper or something else to enhance it, think of like a chicken bouillon cube etc you don't just cook with that you add to it. All in all a great addition to the McCormick Gourmet Seasoning line.
Really enjoyed this seasoning when pan-frying some mixed chicken wings and drumsticks; the base includes thyme, oregano, black pepper and a little nutmeg. Add some salt and green onions, a little dash of oyster sauce and brown sugar for the umami/browning, and it makes for a delicious easy dish over rice pilaf and side of veggies. I can see myself using this for a roast, for a stew, I find it versatile!
The quality of this seasoning is very good and the powder goes a long way for small amounts used. The flavor profile is very strong Italian making this less of a poultry flavor. The flavor is also missing salt, you would need to add salt to get the meat to have better flavor. I can use this in Italian dishes but did not enjoy the flavor as a stand alone chicken seasoning.
