This is a solid 5-star choice for a first time/novice home gym, and mid 3-Star for an intermediate or experienced user so I averaged it to 4.
It is built sufficiently solid and is a noticeable step up from the cheaper Mikolo units. However, due to such a large feature set being crammed into such a small footprint it is not without its hiccups. I'll start with the bad so I can finish with the good.
2:1 - If you don't know what that means then the simple explanation is that using the cables you will only feel half the weight load. Meaning you'll need to have or purchase at least twice the weight you typically lift. For the intermediate/advanced user your issue will be the space available to load weight. I'm intermediate at best and even for me loading 300 to Lat Pull 150 gets annoying and takes most of each peg.
Smith Machine - I found the assembly of the smith bar to be difficult with 9 overall pieces to the bar alone. The geometry of each piece can affect how the bar travels and rests on the locks. For mine I had to shim one of the bolts and remove some slag and overspray at the carrier mounts to get it to align properly. This may or may not be a concern for everyone else. The other issue is the lock pegs. They are twice as long as they need to be. I'm always hitting my wrists and elbows on them and cannot do wide grips because of how far they stick out.
Minor Gripes - 1. I don't care for the feel of the smith's carrier bearings. 2. Leg Press attachment is useless and unsafe. 3.Pull up bar seems limited from previous versions. 4. Front support legs stick out too far. I don't know if the length is 100% necessary but getting under the pulley using a bench/seat is more difficult to use than I had imagined.
The Good - As I said this is a considerable step up from Mikolo's more budget units without too steep of a price increase. The rigidity of the frame, the smoothness of the aluminum pulleys, and the increased flexibility of the arms allow me to feel much closer to having truly replaced the gym. Not only does this machine have the flexibility to cover most gym machines, but it also lets me get creative on different ways to do things. As someone who has collected injuries over the years, sometimes purely correct form isn't an option. Sometimes I need to modify a movement to target the muscle working around an old injury. This machine has been the best at that for me so far. This machine is very good at what and who it is aimed for. It is a solid home gym which can fit any experience level. It can allow you to do most movements you need a commercial gym for. While this machine is not up to the same quality of commercial gym equipment, remember that commercial equipment is built for decades of use and abuse by thousands of users. A home gym doesn't need to be. So, while I would never recommend this for any type of public or commercial use, it is a very very solid home option.
