Minwax High Performance Wood Hardener, 1 Pint

works quickly and works miracles. its a great for beautiful but neglected wood floors. a small section of the bedroom where a camber pot was set up (and obviously spilled and never cleaned) will still need to be replaced but two other spots in the house that werent properly cared for but urined on wont. im confident the worst area wont crumble further while saving up for a professional to replace it.

Needs only a small amount to be effective. I use a syringe with a plastic tube connected to facilitate minimal useage. Hardens rotted wood.

Works great on old wood to harden it.

The Minwax Wood Hardner worked well on a very punky bowl. As I turned it I kept soaking it and it came out beautifully. I have some very soft spalted maple pen blanks and they are turning quite well with the hardner and a sharp skew.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Standing in the stain isle you see a number of Minwax products. I often wondered how some of the products performed so I finally decided to test them out before my next project. The hardener has a low viscosity, easily spreads and quickly soaks into wood fibers. It is tacky within minutes and dry enough to sand or use Minwax's high performance wood filler in about two hours. The vapors smell similar to a pvc primer but with good ventilation, it isn't something that lingers. You need multiple coats but they happen fairly quickly. The hardener makes the surface easier to sand and prepare for finishes. After the product has cured, it makes a slightly higher pitched sound when you tap it. I applied solid stain and have the following observations on the difference between hardened word and bare wood. The hardener seals up the wood but remains ready to accept a finish. The solid stain did not seem to soak into the wood but it did adhere strongly to the surface. The color was fairly even and the final finish was richer. The unfinished wood side was rougher, duller and needed more coats to even out the color. The Minwax hardener is like a thin, clear, nail polish. It helps you sand rough wood and stops moisture absorption which is great for areas where you need to use a hard filler. It makes a strong interface between two dissimilar materials and helps preventing the patch from failing. It is worth the investment for use on repairs or finishing end grain.

I heard about wood hardner on UTube. Tried it and it worked perfectly for the project. I have no knowledge how this particular wood hardner compares to other products, but for my money this hardner is Top Shelf.

It's really just okay. I've noticed it's a hit or miss with this product. Sometimes I get great results, sometimes it's like I never applied anything and I need several coats and applications for it to do much of any hardening, it just turns the wood white.

I can not open the can!!!! I had a used can of this product, which worked well once I cut off top to get to it, thinking it was because it was used and possibly stuck on from product? Thinking now it is the way the cap is, but how do you access the contents?? push down and turn? I am so frustrated!! would give 5 stars for product but 0 for container it is in.
