Aa bit of overkill for what will essentially be used s a battery maintainer, but works well, especially like the de-sulfidations phase which keeps battery alive . Thanks to that 'cleaning' phase my current optima battery is 15 years old and still going strong
The product was received very quickly. I ordered on Friday and was able to use the item on Sunday. Excellent quality. Performed better than expected. The 5 amp rating was the besy choice for the price and intended use. Also, the fact that it works on various types of batteries is a real plus.
My old charger wouldn't work if the battery was dead or nearly dead. Seems counterintuitive considering its job is to charge batteries, but this one can using force mode. It's also foolproof to use. Basically, all you have to do is plug it in and attach it to the battery. It's detects battery type, won't overcharge and has a restore function that helps prolong battery life. Also, it won't start if you happen to cross the leads. Foolproof.
I now have 4 of these. I have a 1 amp, 2 two amps and now this 5 amp charger. They all work perfectly at keeping my batteries topped off. I bought the 5 amp so it would a little faster at tipping off a couple of Optima Yellow top car batteries and it faster than the two amps for sure. These chargers are basically trickle chargers to keep your batteries topped off and they work great for that. If you want something fast you better get a higher amperage charger.,Like a 10 amp or more. If you want something to jump start your car without electricity to plug into you need to buy a NOCO jump starter not a charger, thought I'd mention that because one review mentioned they thought it would work without electricity for jumping a dead battery.
I have the 1 amp and now the 5 amp (Genius1 and Genius5). Loved the first one so much for the motorcycle . . . I had to get another for the truck! :D Great product!!
Most importantly for me, this charger has the ability to try and charge batteries down to 0 volts. Was able to recover an AGM battery that was only registering 3 volts and seems like a good trickle charger to boot.
This charger worked wonders on a battery I wasn't sure would take a charge. It was very easy to use. Note* Someone hooked it up for me while I was away, you must use the chargers cables and clamps.
I tried a NOCO 1A 1st and it showed up as a bad battery after an hour (I read afterwards that I needed the 5A). I ordered the NOCO 5A and tried it. I attempted to charge an ACDelco 48HPG 80AH AGM battery, but it was bad. It charged for 4 days with the NOCO 5A but never came up as a bad battery that would not hold a charge. I then had a regular NAPA flooded battery in a 2002 Ford F150 that was dead from not being used. It charged overnight and has been working since. I like the fact that you can select what type of battery you want to charge. It is very easy to use. I would really love to have the cigarette lighter type accessary to use on a corvette as a trickle charger.
At first when I got this from picking up at the store I was very disappointed %26 felt I would have to return this cause I can see this clearly was used and didn't know walmart does that selling as brand new. They could have taken so bucks off the price, the box had no seal on it, the cords were a mess, the box was ripped, and there was some weird clear mess on the box looks like I hope was vaseline. I had my car sitting weeks from the freezing cold causing the battery to fail. I thought I try this over the cheaper model. It only took a few minutes or so for it to be at the 75% icon. I had it on all day almost 8 hours it didn't reach full charge according the directions it almost and probably take 12 total hours. I started the car and it started right away no hesitation. This thing is very handy for this brutal winter %26 if you have a second car that doesn't get driven often. The cords are perfect length and I see if you need it overnight you are able to close the hood. The downsides are it doesn't seem right for the value you pay for $70 bucks no protective case as well as there are no instructions only a safety manual. I pay much less for a portable jump started %26 tire inflator which came with instructions as well as a protective case. They make you go online. I'm hoping to get more than that!
I don't know what to say about this because I ordered the novo genius 5A and was sent the novo genius 1A that does do do what I needed it to do had to return I'm going to try and reorder the noco genius 5A again, hopefully they'll get it right this time around.
