Pennington Earth Smart, Gray Plastic, Hopper Wild Bird Feeder, 2.5 lb. Capacity

I've purchased a previous version of this feeder and the top was secured with a mechanism to hold the top in place. Monk parakeets (wild) love to tear things up. I had to replace it twice because they destroyed the plastic mechanism. THIS new upgrade does away with that mechanism making it instead a twist top. Took a little getting used to but pleased that the parakeets won't be able to break this one.

I really like this feeder. however it's a bit hard to fill while hanging. The feeder tips so you must hold it as you scoop feed into it. The top of the feeder twist onto the base. This is good but you have to align everything just right or it comes apart and your seed will be dumped. I've had a little trouble with it and I have been really careful. Apparently not careful enough because this morning the feeder was hanging sideways and really close to dumping a full feeder on the ground. So keep this in mind when filling your feeder.

This is an all-plastic bird feeder except for the metal hanging cable. It holds a good bit of seed and the entire top twists off so it is easy to fill. It can't be filled when hanging up. Birds started using it within 30 minutes but larger birds like cardinals struggle because the perches are so close to the hopper. This feeder may restrict squirrel's direct access to the bird seed because of the narrow trough design but they can easily rock it to spill the seed out. It's a very basic feeder at a decent price but may not work for larger birds

I use hanging feeders and ground feeders for different sizes and types of birds. I have tried different types and sizes over the years. The hanging feeder I am using now is very good (I have 2 that I use alternatively) but I was looking for same type maybe a little bit larger. The size is what attracted me to buy this Pennington Earth Smart, Gray Plastic, Hopper Wild Bird Feeder, 2.5 lb. Capacity. I bought 2. PRO: Large plastic container size PRO: Quality seems to be good PRO: Reasonable price CON BUT I CAN GET USED TO IT: Twisting the top to open/close is not easy. Also, seeds could spill all over, etc. I thought I could simply unhang the feeder and refill while resting on something/table OR since I got 2 feeders, unhang feeder 1 and replace with feeder 2 already filled up – alternating both feeders. MAJOR CON: I observed my first tiny visitors, goldfinch, titmouse, Chickadee… withing minutes after hanging the feeder. I saw them standing sideways, bending over a lot, in an unusual way. This is when I carefully compared my current feeder and my new Pennington feeder. PROBLEM: 1 - The space between the landing rim and the feeding hole is TOO NARROW. Way too small. NOT ENOUGH ROOM for birds to FACE the feeding area. 2 - The opening for seeds to go through is way too SMALL. Seeds mixes often have black oil sunflowers, peanuts, sunflowers heart, safflowers, corn, and millet. I doubt larger feeds will not get stuck (just my honest opinion, since I will not use this feeder and did not witness such issue myself). 3 – I will not use this feeder unless I have no other choice. Not returning. I should have been more careful looking at the pictures.

This feeder looks nice and works okay. The opening at the bottom is narrow and sometimes doesn't allow the seeds to flow down. I have to give it a good shake to assist it. Its very easy to fill. The top twists off. Its plastic and not fancy, but its affordable.

I always buy this brand of birdfeeders, but have been disappointed the last few times that I have bought them because of the lid. The picture showed that these last three that I bought were like the old ones where you didn't have to twist the lid to move it up. Wish you would go back to the other ones.

This BIRD FEEDER is quite small, despite the "holds 2.5 lbs" unless there is lead in the seeds, no way! My birds would clean this feeder out in 4 or 5 hours. I knew it wasn't a monster but gee whizzers....gave the feeder away for early xmas present. If you don't mind filling it every day, then it probably is just fine.

We have Red Birds around, and many other species. We use seed with Sunflower Seeds in it. The dispensing holes on this feeder are so small that the seeds won't come out by gravity. The Sunflower Seeds tend to create a log jam (so to speak) and block the dispensing holes preventing the seeds from dispensing.

This bird feeder is unusable due to the fact that the slots where the birdseed is supposed to come out are so small at sunflower seeds, and most of the other seeds that come in birdseed mixtures are too big, get stuck and the birds can't get to them. After I filled it with shelled sunflower seeds, which were the only seeds small enough to come through the slot, there was a rain storm and the seeds got totally wet and clogged up the openings, so again, it didn't work. It is a mess to try to clean it. It's not a good design!

Put bird seed in, hung on tree. Bottom dropped out. Whole bird feeder and seed all over the ground. Walmart will not refund me without return, even tho it's broken and I'm chronically ill. And have no way to get it there. Including by shipping lable. No printer. It's not my fault it malfunctioned!
