The woodpeckers absolutely love this! It didn't take long for them to find it, and once they did, it was like their personal snack bar opened for business. It holds up well in the feeder and keeps them coming back. If you enjoy a little backyard bird entertainment, this one's a winner. Definitely keeping this stocked for my feathered regulars.
I really wanted the "hot" suet cakes because they are the only ones that the birds will eat but the squirrels won't touch. Unfortunately, they were sold out so I picked these up as a substitute because since it's been so cold, the birds needed something. The birds loved them, unfortunately, the squirrels did too. I don't know who ate the most, the birds or the squirrels. They were gone very quickly. Pennington is a great company. Their products are all high quality
Brings the birds around with love, watch them arrive daily, just unwrap load into feeder and enjoy nature.
The birds loved it. I have to keep replacing the feeder all the time. I'm going to have to buy some more.
There is nothing wrong with this brand of suet. I just took off a star because this flavor seems to last longer than other flavors. My birds actually prefer the hot and spicy but that was not available.
Wasn't sure about the apple flavor, because the birds were slow in testing it out. But, they have seemed to come around. It has lasted a lot longer than the other flavors though.
High quality bird seed, as well as more affordable options, at very reasonable prices. The downside is the display. It's totally disorganized and not well maintained. Most birdseed is in one general location, but walk away and there's a pallet of sunflower seed in the household cleaners department, walking further into the arts and crafts section and there's another. Hopefully the Walmart upgrade cures this.
The ingredients are GREAT, but I haven't seen any birds eat this feed yet... I have had it outside for a month now. Maybe I need to change the location of it.
Completed melted out of the cage and into the tree in 90 degree weather. It gets hotter than that here. They also come with excessive plastic packaging to keep the suet from melting in transit. Amazon suet blocks cost more but don't melt in the sun. It isnt that big a deal but they make an enormous mess that needs cleaning twice a week. Whereas the Amazon blocks don't necessitate cleaning. You just replace when the suet block has been completely eaten. Walmart is about $1.25 per block of suet. Amazon is about 50% more at $1.80. But since they melt instead of being eaten, Im replacing these suet blocks twice a week at $2.50 per suet cage, per week. Might as well save myself 70 cents a week (and a greasy hassle) and just stick to the Amazon suet. Birds and squirrels do love it, so if you live somewhere a bit cooler, or if you only use them in winter, these blocks would work.
I was really disappointed with the Pennington Feeding Frenzy Apple Treat Suet Cake. The “apple treat” aspect is barely noticeable—there's no real scent or visible fruit pieces, so it feels more like a generic suet block than anything special. Within a couple of days, it started to crumble and fall apart in the feeder, creating a mess on the ground rather than actually feeding birds. Even more frustrating, it didn't seem to attract many birds at all. Species that usually visit my yard ignored it completely, and the few that did show up didn't stick around. For something marketed as a “treat,” it clearly didn't live up to expectations. On top of that, the quality doesn't feel fresh. The texture was oddly dry and brittle right out of the package, which makes me question how long it had been sitting before purchase. Overall, not worth the money—I've had much better results with other suet brands.
