Works great! Providing this tool is used also...

LovesOmbre September 30, 2025

I hand-threw the mix down straight out of the bag, and in a total of 3.5 months time, I literally have lawn again. This is not just for "problemy" patch spots, this is on my front lawn that has two large bushes, a large area of bare, dry, nutrient-deprived soil that gets the most sun throughout a day in summer. I also used a step-on 'Lawn Aerator Spike Tool' hand tool that I purchased off of Amazon that has (15) 3.5" nail spikes that are bolted to a push plate to push down into the ground as to allowing for the seed roots to grow deeper into the ground and have the rain water/sprinkler get down a soften the hard soil, instead of a regular hand tiller, which I thought wasn't long enough for grass roots to get deeper into my lawn. I figured that the full-sun type would be a good fix for this issue, one issue that I've dealt with for 23 years owning my house/property, and this area of my property having a dense/hard compacted soil, so much that it was difficult to keep the grass alive, even with watering with a sprinkler every year as its so dry and compacted soil. Well, last year I trimmed down my bushes because they were entirely too big and getting floppy from its own weight, looking a terrible mess, and when I'm done I see there's no grass underneath what was growing. Plus, I got a notification from my HOA to correct the no-grass issue. I used a seed mulch fertilizer last year but I used a regular tiller and it ended up not surviving (it was sparse growing anyway). But this year I bought two bags of this for hot weather/full sun areas and I have thick grass now, just in time for autumn season with a lot of rain to keep it happy. It's a bright green hue and a lot nicer looking than it was, even my neighbor's I share with (his is only weeds). I'm just hoping his negligence doesn't undue what it took to bring mine back to better than what it's ever been. But that's beside the point. I put a lot of this mix down, like, completely covered and went back with the second bag in spots where it was thinning like around my neighbor's pine tree that has roots sticking up and no grass growing around them and the ground actually has the grass growing there also. I didn't go sparingly. I was also sure to position my sprinklers accordingly in the correct spots, letting it run for hours everyday for those 3 months to make sure the seed when sprouting get hydrated. I did turn off my sprinkler if the water happened to pool for too long to allow for run off and not drown the seeds. Did I mention I live in Alaska? I'm in Anchorage, where it's the bottom middle on the map. We have ultra dry compacted dirt too and get some hot sun also, believe it or not lol. Hopefully the new grass has been established and growing long enough that it will survive our winter that's coming soon. Those temps can get to 30 below zero for at least a week at its coldest drop, usually in January/February months. The photos I'm providing are from May 19, 2025 to September 4, 2025.

Does what it says on the tin

B October 19, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used to fill in dead spots in my lawn, the grass grew relatively quickly. The areas I remembered to water look great and were fully filled in after about a month. The areas that were inconvenient to water didn't take as well, but that's my own fault.

Patching wonders

Madison October 22, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Being in AZ our heat can be rough to recover areas that are in need. I have 4 dogs and one of them is a digger. So filling in holes and patches- have to seed this was a miracle worker. It worked fairly fast and matched my lawn.

I used this in the spring, to fix some bare spots. It was watered 3 times daily yet no grass has appeared after 1 month.

I am 91 and techno inept. I wanted and tried to order bermuda grass seed with no fertilizer oe additives. This seed apparently contains fertilizer. It not only will not grow but it also killed the grass I did have.Apparently, when the mracle gro i already had spread on my grass that was growing combined with the pennington fertilizer to kill everuthing. I am very discouraged. My yard is even more bare than before.

Waste of water, money and time

cassandra May 20, 2025

I followed instructions and watered diligently. Nothing grew. You may as well take your money and sprinkle it on your bare spots. I'll go back to Scott's. Oh and they offer a refund. Yes, you have to pay to mail your bag and receipt so there goes another $12.00. They determine if conditions were favorable.
