This is such a step up from the previous wireless control options Philips developed. I like the flexibility to adjust all 4 of the buttons as well as the rotary dimming dial. It has a nice design/look as well.
This little gadget is wonderful! Easy to set up, lots of scenes, dim/brighten…. So much fun setting the mood or changing the lights for reading
Took me four times deleting and re installing Hue app and unplugging my existing bridge over a three day period, to actually "discover" the tap dial switch. Horrible directions included and online. Everything assumes the install went smooth on first try. Wrong. Very frustrating, was ready to send it back. Once I finally got it installed, it does exactly what I wanted, works great. I would buy again. However, if you're the type that glitches drive you crazy, don't bother, it's that bad.
Setup process could be improved. Paired with my hub easily enough but programming the buttons and dial wasn't as clear. Would have liked it better if the dial could dynamically work on the device of the last button press so it could dim more devices rather than using scene selection. Would gladly give up controlling a fifth device for this feature.
Works great. Lots of features. I wish it worked with HomeKit.
Once you manage to get the switch set up, things are great. I love that it comes in black. I love the 4 scene buttons. I don't use the base, it sits on my desk and I use it to switch light scene for work, video conference lighting or gaming scenes. That's the good news. The bad news is that this was the single worst setup experience I've ever had with a Philips Hue product. The first problem was the Hue iOS app itself. Even though it was up to date, it was still showing an out-of-date UI that didn't include the option to set up this newer switch. After restarting and resetting and deleting and re-downloading and googling the problem and asking support, the app finally updated itself. Next up … the switch wouldn't go into pairing mode. I had to take the battery cover off and use the pin-hole reset to get the LED blinking. But then the app would not find the switch. And then it would find it, but when you tried to connect it would fail. I must have repeated that process 20+ times. Finally after googling that problem I discovered that this was a known problem and to just check your device list because even though it claims it didn't work, it actually did connect and you just ignore the error. Now that all the drama is over, I will say that I haven't had any addition problems. Hopefully some software updates will get made soon and others won't have to have such a frustrating experience.
I'm a longtime power user and was excited for this product. Unfortunately it is not too responsive. Buttons need to be pressed repeatedly before working and dimming feature is very laggy.
It looks great, but isn't working properly and not connecting to the lights I want it to. It randomly connect to some lights and I can't get it to work.
I can't get it set up on the network because it does not show up as an accessory to add inside the Philips Hue App most recent version of 4.22.1 for iOS (on an iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 15.5). The instruction booklet inside the box is useless with only a few pictures and no words describing setup. The Philips website has setup instructions different from the instructions booklet and also shows Hue App screenshots that don't exist in the actual app. I talked to Philips support and he had no idea what the product even was much less how to set it up. Oddly, even though the instructions are useless I did try a combination of things and somehow the Tap Dial shows up in the app under "Settings>Software Update" and it even updated the Tap Dial's software! However I still can't get it setup on the network and working as an accessory! All of this is from someone who is currently running 4 of the older model Philips Hue Tap Switch....I wanted to add two of the new Philips Hue Tap Dial Switches and can't due to Hue App software issues.
