This is a Very nice Desk. I purchased this for my teen son as he wants to do his art work and studies more in private and he wanted one for his bedroom. Let me tell you, this is a heavy desk! They delivered it on my porch because I wasn't home and I couldn't lift it to get it in the house so I had to use a Dolly I had which was just a short low to the ground dolly that lifts up a portable washer and It took all my strength to get this in the house and when I did I unloaded it out so I could move the pieces to my sons bedroom. Spent 5 hours putting it together because it was a lot of heavy items. A very easy piece of furniture to put together. There are instructions and they number the items and Letters separately and comes with all of the hardware in their own little packet pouche so don't open it and dump them all out because you will need the pouch packets they're in for the numbers and instructions in the manual it has. It will require lots of time to put together. If you had a electric screwdriver or a good tool item it might make it go faster I suppose. You should put it together in the room you choose to use it in because as I said it is heavy. After it's all finished it is beautiful.
The Desk arrived with no damage and I sorted the parts. This desk assembly requires study, tools and skill to complete. You must think ahead and measure accurately. Some of the holes don't go thru, so don't do it. The parts are just blocks that easily locate to where needed. So really you just need to fasten them in place. To assemble with the pedestal on the left I built the desk as assemblies. The holes in the desk Top are mirrored front to back and left to right and re-drilled in their new positions. The 3 leg assemblies are rotated 180 and face out on their opposite sides. The side Leg assemblies assembled using all original fasteners. The middle Leg assembly in its new position puts the single leg at the back, so it is moved to the front. In its new position the cam holes are missing (I re-drilled no cam holes), so I drilled thru the pin holes and attached the leg with #8x3 screws and glue. The Modesty panel also rotates 180 and this makes the cam holes available to fasten. The assemblies in the new positions have numerous holes to re-drill. The Drawers assemble per instructions, but the Glides on the Desk are switched sides and of course re-drilled in their new positions. The metal accents are moved to the front. The 5 unused holes are colored with a black marker. To increase strength, I used 14 of 1/2"" angles attached with #6x5/8 screws, painted black. The original fasteners are enough to hold the Desk together, but the angles really make the desk ridged. I also added 25 additional #8x3 screws to hold all the assemblies together. The Desk becomes very ridged. As you can see from the pictures, I used standard tools with brad point drill bits. I pilot drilled and counter sunk and drilled all the screws. This assembly took 20 hours at a casual pace. I did miss-drill 2 holes and had to glue and dowel plug. Have fun, relax, take care and plan ahead. The Desk is a very nice Desk if a little heavy. Thanks. DMWorrel
I read the reviews and was concerned about shipping damage and difficulties in assembly. My unit arrived in pristine condition. I did a full inventory of the parts as received and labeled them with the instruction codes for easy retrieval. I grouped the screws and other hardware and labeled them. The instructions were clear. I methodically went page by page, taking my time and after about three hours, the job was done. No problems were encountered including twisting the special twist locks to 210 degrees. I did not have to drill any holes. I only needed a screw driver and hammer. The manufacturer has videos to show how to do some steps. The drawer adjustment video is worth watching. And the result is well worth the effort. BTW, I ended up with two extra nails and one extra cap. Otherwise all parts were exactly as needed.
Very good workmanship. All made in America. Easy to read assembly instructions. Took about 5 hours to assemble. Missing a couple of minor parts but called the company and they were shipped right away. A couple of minor dings (not necessary to replace) as the shipping carton and packaging was one of the best I've ever seen. Probably helps that it was shipped Federal Express instead of something else.
We've never bought "put together" furniture before, and we were very pleased with this desk. It was delivered promptly, and in the rain, but, was wrapped in plastic so nothing got wet. Be warned that it is a very heavy package. If we didn't have company at the time, we would've had an issue getting it in the house. Once you begin to unpack, it is very clear that returning it will surely be an issue. All our hardware was accounted for before we began. We had a slight scratch on the top of the desk, but, with a little "scratch cover", it was never noticed again. If you organize and check all the parts before starting, it will make the project go alot easier. Also, plan to take some breaks - we divided it up into a two day project. We found the directions were very clear, and in understandable English. We didn't even have any "words" while putting the desk together:) The finished product it really very nice looking, and just what we wanted for our home office.
Purchased this desk for my husband so he would quit using our dining table as an office. When we opened the box and inspected the pieces everything was in perfect condition. If you've never assembled furniture before I suggest finding someone to help you who has. I've assembled furniture a few times so it was no big deal for me. It took us about 4 hours to put the desk together and 1 hour for the 3 drawers. Sometimes it's easier to look at the illustrations and put the pieces together accordingly than reading the instructions. They made it sound overly complicated when it wasn't with their description of the pieces. It is made of manufactured wood and laminate. For the price, you can't expect this desk to be made of solid wood. The desk has a beautiful color and industrial look with the cross bars on one side and the corner pieces. The drawer handles for the 2 drawers are cheap tin but I suppose you could replace them with something else if you wanted. I agree with another reviewer who mentioned the cheap, flimsy backing that goes behind the 2 drawers. They should have at least made that of manufactured wood as well. So this would be a desk that should face a wall. I had a hard time trying to get the drawers in. At first, I thought I might have built them wrong. My husband came over and gave them a sturdy tap with the palm of his hands and they fell right into place and function perfectly fine. When all is said and done, we do like this desk and it's looks. The only thing I didn't care for was the cheap backing and drawer handles.
I bought this desk for a small spare bedroom and I'm very happy with my purchase. I looked at a lot of desks online before buying this one. I wanted a wood look and a simple design that was functional. This desk was reasonably priced, good quality for the price and a very good looking piece! Although it is a little darker color than I expected but I still like it. It has a good size work space and I put a small printer on the drawer side. The assembly took a few hours for me and my husband but the parts were all included and the holes were all drilled correctly. There were a lot of steps but the instructions were accurate. My only complaint was the drawer slides needed a lot of adjusting for the drawers to fit properly without gaps or touching the desktop or rubbing each other. I was impressed when the box arrived at our house with cardboard edges for extra protection during shipping. Overall I am very satisfied with this desk and would recommend to others.
I really like my new desk although it is a little darker wood than it appeared in the picture. I put it together by myself, being a female... it only took me 4 hrs !! I was able to stand it up and move it with the carpeted coasters... Had to adjust the drawer rollers so that the file drawer and the one above it would close correctly... works like a champ !
The Carson Forge desk is a really nice desk for not a lot of money. And surprisingly, the assembly instructions were clear, with enough detail to the pictures to aid in making sure all the pieces went together properly. It was a little daunting to see how many pieces there were, and it did take several hours to complete the job, but the end result is really nice. I was able to do all the assembly by myself, and I had no problems understanding the directions whatsoever. Clearly, they were written by a person who speaks English as the first language (no awkward wording to interpret). This desk is not something that will be assembled in an hour, rather, in the better part of a day. But if a 57 year old woman can do it alone armed with only a Phillips head screwdriver and occasional taps from a hammer, then most anyone can accomplish the task. My advice: take your time to study the pictures and instructions, go by the steps as laid out, and don't get in a hurry. The only issue I really had was that some of the stickers marking the pieces had come off, but with the illustrations I was able to identify those pieces and mark them myself. The color, called Washington Cherry, is not the reddish cherry one might think of. It's more brown, with a rustic appearance, which is just what I had in mind. It goes well with the darker oak I have in the same room. This is not a solid wood product, and may not hold us forever, but it fills the space I have and fits my needs for now.
I was very unhappy with this desk. It arrived with a damaged corner on the top piece. It was extremely difficult for two people to set up; took all day. Not real wood as expected, and had chipped edges in many places. Back piece was cardboard. Returning it today.
