Smithsonian Super Dig Archaeology Science Kit for Elementary and Middle School Ages 8+

This was a Christmas gift for my grandkids, 8 and 5, and I'm glad I got it for them. Their mother told me that they spent most of Christmas day, getting the fossils, rocks, and gems out of it. She sent me pictures throughout the day on their progress, and it looks like they still have some work to do chipping away at it to get all of it. Each new fossil discovered prompted conversations about what kind of bone it was and where it would go on the dinosaurs bodies, as well as, which dinosaur it might have belonged to. Each new rock or gem was also discussed. Those kids were really concentrating while they were working, and when I said I might need to buy it again for them, their mother said yes I should. It did look like it was a little messy while they were working, but they were in the work shop building on their property, so it didn't really matter. I highly recommend it for its educational value, as well as the fun the kids have discovering each new piece.

So much fun for a 3 1/2 year old. He loved it. He still talks about it and wants another set. Definitely would recommend. Would purchase again.

A little over priced for the prizes you discover

Do not waste your money on this brand of dig kit. Very very disappointing. It said 11 ge stones and it only contained 10 and they were all very very small . some were only slivers of gemstones others so small you would worry about throwing out any small brick pieces because they could contain one unless you could crush the scraps of brick so fine. It is also more expensive then some of the others and there were 3 of one kind 2 of another kind 2 of a 3rd kind the rest the laast 3 were all different and they were all pretty much near each other. The very biggest piece that I measured was 1 inch by 1 inch. Disgraceful for such a popular name.
