If you have problems with grubs in your lawn, and if you're willing to invest the time, milky spore is the product you want. My lawn was treated annually by TruGreen for grubs. This has no apparent effect. When I planted raspberry canes (which are bioligically in the same family as roses), the grubs got worse. When J would dig in my yard, every shovelful had many grubs in it. Milky spore lives on only and exactly one thing: Japanese beetle grubs. (Japanese beetles are the really shiny ones that swarm your rose bushes.) I spread the milky-spore powder by pacing across my yard with a teaspoon, sprinkling a little powder every step or two. (I try to do this shortly before rain is expected, so I don't have to bother with watering the powder into the soil.) You have to allow the spores to spread and start finding (and liquifying) the grubs. You may not see much effect in the first hrib season after you've started inoculating your lawn. But continue, Aprils and Augusts, to sprinkle. Next year, the skunks won't tear things up as badly. The year after, they won't even bother. It. Is. Awesome!

Effective

Mike August 8, 2025

This is a classic, effective and natural control measure for grubs in lawns. You need to apply it two years in a row for maximum effectiveness and ideally you spread the powder just ahead of a light rain storm so it has a chance to soak into the soil quickly. also, it works best if you spread only a teaspoon or so per “dot” in a dot grid spaced 4 feet apart between all dots. It does not have to be uniformly spread across the lawn to work.

Grub killer

A friend told me about this product. Well worth the price, if it rids yard of grubs for 10 years. No more moles.

Grubs Be Gone

anonymous March 1, 2025

I was told if I killed the grubs, the moles would leave, so I'm giving it a try!

2500 square feet

anonymous June 21, 2026

i received St. Gabriel organics earlier today and was really surprised. a small bag that's supposed to cover 2500sqf. wow. upon reading some of the information it'll only ladt for this much ground by spot treatment. i'll try in my garden since i've seen grubs in the doil and around the house and hopefully it'll work.

I bought this because I've found grubs in my raised garden beds last year and this is safe to use with vegetables. We'll see if it works. It was easy to apply and will go a long way in my garden beds, but certainly is not enough to cover my yard. I plan to use the real stuff for my yard.

Milky Spore for Jap. beetle grub prevention

Mary S July 12, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I won't know how well this milky spore works until next year when it takes affect (killing the Japanese beetle grubs as they eat). I would have liked a little more instruction on exactly how to apply it. I am hoping that it does what it claims and I have no reason to doubt that it will. I am glad that it was available and arrived so quickly.

I won't know how well it works till spring. It is supposed to resolve brown spots if the cause is a beetle or grub.
