Stansport Multi-Function Compass with Mirrored Cover

Perfect value compass for backpacking. Not as large or heavy as many similar compasses. The mirror adds more functionality too if you need to have a look at yourself or for signaling.

Great for a beginner,with no intention of serious Wilderness travel.Does lack manual.Had to buy a book.

All moving parts move. It is a convenient compass with a mirrored top that 'snaps' closed. It is great for children or small outings. It is lightweight.

This compass has a clear baseplate and no clinometer. It has a rotating bezel and a fixed declination scale. The dial is luminous, but the needle is not. The mirrored cover has a sighting hole and a v-notch sight at the top. Most importantly, the needle points north. In all, the compass is a good value for the price.

It's exactly as pictured. Made an 8 year old boy very happy on his birthday.

Don't expect a low-distortion mirror, high quality lanyard, and bombproof construction at this price point. I also wish the description had stated that the lid's hinge is metal—it may not be stainless and hold up in the marine and brackish environment I intend to use it, but I could be pleasantly surprised.

Not nearly enough isolation in the needle "float". Who can hold this thing precisely and stably enough (especially while walking) to keep the needle from binding? Not me. Seems rather cheaply made.
