Star Trek - The Original Series: The Complete Series

I purchased the Star Trek: The Complete Original Series on Blu-ray and I'm very satisfied. The delivery was fast, and the item arrived in perfect condition, without any apparent damage to the case or discs. I haven't had a chance to test every single disc yet, but they all look okay and scratch-free. As for the series itself... well, it's Star Trek! It's a classic for a reason. The picture and sound quality on this Blu-ray set are great. Highly recommended!

This review is about the "Paramount / Star Trek: The Complete Original Series [Blu-ray]" from CBS Blu-ray (barcode %231-91329-21149) from Walmart online. I paid a little over $50 for this set which I though was a great price. I was looking for a Star Trek TOS set with the original effects (and optionally, also the enhanced effects--they are nice, after all); I was worried when it arrived because the case only advertised "enhanced effects." Thankfully, the discs do offer the option to switch between the original enhanced versions, right there on the pop-up menu. The packaging is minimal: no booklet or pictures. Although the outer case is a pretty solid plastic, the inner plastic "pages" that hold the discs are flimsy and make accessing discs difficult because multiple discs are stacked on top of each other. Luckily, no pages were broken or discs scratched, but a few discs were floating loosely upon arrival. Besides the episodes, it does include "The Cage" and "The Cage Extended version," as well as "9 hours of special features" which I have not yet explored. Video quality (1080p) is great and I appreciate the audio option of 7.1 surround or original mono. The episodes themselves need no review; everyone agrees that it's the best tv show of all time, with the greatest cast ever assembled, particularly William Shatner. One thing I did not like was that a preview of a JJ Abrams Star Trek movie automatically ran as soon as I loaded the first disc. I found this to be in extremely bad taste. Basically, though, this set gets the job done, if what you want to do is watch old Star Trek!!

The disks on the front and back were loose, opening it for the first time. The dusk one had a scratch on the outer 1/4 of an inch. This is the final section of Blu-ray disks. It's playing well, and the rest of them are fine. FedEx put them in my apartment complex's mailroom; I did not ask for that. I ran out to get it.

Star Trek - The Animated Series should be considered the 4th season of The Original Series (TOS). While the format has changed, and the episodes are shorter, episodes were written by science fiction writers, including writers from TOS. Voices were supplied by actors from TOS, and all major characters were present except for Walter Koenig. DC Fontana, from TOS, was a key writer and producer, and each episode was written against the manual from TOS. These episodes are typically less available than TOS, so owning the BluRay solves the availability problem.

The original and still best Star Trek, gorgeously remastered with new effects that look like they took better shots of the old models and a bunch of cool extras.

Loved this when it first came on TV when I was a kid but we still had a black and white set. Yes I have seen them many time since then but I still love it. It sent me on a course to love science.

Love the upgrade detail from the DVD version. Great picture also and you have the option to watch it in the original version

I liked this release because each episode was duplicated with new imaging. The original imaging was pretty cheesy although it was the '60s. The new imaging of the Starship Enterprise passing by or orbiting a planet is much better and smoother.

The show is great. The disc are good. There is an issue with the case. The case that is used is horrible. This case stacks several disc on one peg and it is very difficult to get them off the peg. There are multiple pegs each with multiple disc. One of the pegs would not hold the disc in place and they would slip off and slide around the box. The others were so tight it felt like the discs were going to snap when removing them. I placed my discs into different cases because I did not want my discs scratched from coming off the loose peg and moving about freely in the case or breaking from being to tight on the other pegs. The show is great and the episodes are very nice with the remastering. This is great as a gift or an addition to your collection. I do recommend placing your disc into a better case.

Spindle-stacked discs are a terrible idea even considering Blu-ray's anti-scratch coating. Do yourself a favor and buy the individual seasons. They're one disc per holder. Not much more expensive than this set (if at all).
