Fast simple relatively accurate (for a strip)

Will M October 29, 2020

Test strips are never going to be as precise as using drops for titration testing or having water tested by a lab. However using these strips to do daily tests during new tank cycling and weekly tests to check for problems is very helpful. I still do drop tests monthly and anytime a test strip results looks questionable. But drops take a long time are messy and generally overkill for basic spot checking. There are other brands that test more things but they seem to provide questionable consistency in their results. Tetra's seem to be consistent and match almost perfectly with the titration test results. As long as you keep the strips dry and free of contaminates use them up by or discard them after the expiration date and have adequate color vision to make out the subtle differences in the results then these strips do a great job. I am very happy with them.

USE ONE GALLON OF TANK WATER AND WHISK!

PandaMoanium January 21, 2020

I purchased this tonight. My fancy guppy were flashing after a massive recycling of tank for a disease. These are a new batch quarantined for six months and introduced slowly into cycle. Read tons of reviews and decided this is right for me but reviews looked bad. Yellow? Clumpy? Pics scared me! I decided to remove one gallon of aquarium water add the well shaken product (I had to use 6 teaspoons) and used a whisk yes a whisk for less than three minutes to entirely disperse product. My tank is neither cloudy nor showing the product un dissolved. I think adding it straight may be an issue for most. Please use a whisk if you have one even a wooden spoon and premix in your aquarium water first in something. Fish did perk up as noted no flashing as of yet hoping this is the solution at least.

Never be without it!

Bazza March 15, 2022

Ive used Easy Balance for more than 20 years and Plus just builds on a wonderful product! This keeps everything in balance and although I do a small water change fortnightly with this I havent lost fish to unstable tank conditions for years! Now Ive moved to New Zealand I have to get friends and family to bring it in for me as it is no longer sold in NZ. Come on Tetra sell it in NZ!

This is a 6 in 1 test strip

BettaMama June 16, 2015

This product does what it claims it will do, and the price is the same as in the store. I wish it were less expensive on-line, but it isn't.

No scale included!

LaurenLaurenLauren July 13, 2021

I had the exact same problem everyone else mentions - no scale on the bottle to compare results! I called the 1800 number and got an email chart but the strip results are different to my strip! I have 6 tests the chart has 5. I was told the chart is correct - with no explanation. This is way too expensive a product to have customers try to guess answers in the middle of moving fish around. Im really disappointed with this brand!

A little confused about accuracy

Aquarium12 November 8, 2021

Im confused about accuracy of these hopefully someone can help clarify? I use these a lot and even though I do regular tank cleans/water changes and my fish seem happy and healthy it ALWAYS says my water is unsafe. I am a pretty informed aquarium hobbyist so Im just unsure if I got a bad test kit or what. I also noticed the alkalinity will be half yellow and half dark blue which is strange because its two ends of the spectrum so..which is it?

Doesn't detect chlorine. Even in pure tap water.

Dejan August 28, 2022

I bought these test strips specifically because of the chlorine level detection capability and after two batches of dead goldfish fry found the chlorine level indicator always remains pure white. After a few tests with conditioned water I dipped it straight into tap water and the reason was zero. I'll continue using them for nitrite / nitrate detection which is pretty good but I already had those so unfortunately I feel like I've just wasted my money.

Yuk

daizeegrrl November 28, 2020

I'm new to fishkeeping and and keeping a very close eye on water ph etc. This product was recommended but even with shaking it left little bits of white something on soil (black so it's really obvious) and driftwood. It just plain looks BAD. I didn't notice it with my other tank so much because I had white gravel in it. Not impressed.

No color chart

Fishplant June 30, 2021

I like the idea behind this product but there needs to be a better color chart telling the consumer what needs to be done in order to adjust the levels. The reading on the back of the box only tells you what the ideal color is for the tank. How do you find out how to make the wrong color the right color ? My hardness shows purple but the back of the box shows gray. Is purple to hard or to soft is my real question. I would leave a 4-5 star if the box included explanation on how to respond to colors and what the difference between all the color variations are.

drops pH and kH

DezzyT June 14, 2020

I have been using this for a while and always thought that my tap was just acidic and if i add more of this to my tank then i wont have ph problems. Well i did a little experiment last night and all this does is drop ph and kh! How is that possible! My tap tested at a perfect 7 ph and a kh of 40. I added a single drop of easybalance plus and it results looked about the same maybe a little lighter (lower). I added a few more drops and stirred: ph 6.8 and kh 20. What? I thought buffers were supposed to raise kh! Lets exaggerate the results so i can be sure of what i am seeing. I added 10 ml of easybalance to 1 cup of tap water stirred and tested: ph read the lowest that the test could read and kh read 0. This is the opposite of what a buffer is supposed to do.
