This review has its roots in a never going to change opinion on one topic: The "cloud." Everybody, yes that means you, should always have a personal storage hard drive with a large capacity. Not sd cards. Not USB sticks. A physical hard drive. The cloud only exists to pretend to backup your things then hold those things at random when you don't pay. There are no storage fees with a hard drive and you know exactly where it is.
So far this has worked with zero issue. My concern is longevity. I use this to back up my laptop. Of course the main concern is longevity/reliability meaning whether the hard drive will fail or corrupt in the future. Hopefully I will be able to update if I run into issues down the line. But at present it works completely fine as intended. I am backing up a MacBook Air. This is both usb and usb-c compatible which is very important. The listing did not make this clear in the description, and probably should be updated because potential buyers may pass this over without that information. It works with Time Machine. I recommend.
It's good. Easy, peasy. Plug and play. Small and portable. Has a dual end usb so make sure to remove the cap if needed. Good storage capacity. Holds a good amount of photos, videos, and other files. Satisfied with purchase.
I couldn't figure out how to download the pics I wanted to save... My daughter had to do it. She did it with no problem! Now we don't have to pay for cloud storage! HOORAY!!!
This is the second we have-/ one for family memories and one for sports. They are easy to use and the value for the size is amazing. Many other two TB are twice as much.
This is not a real USB-C product. it a regular External Portable Hard Drive with an additional USB to USB-C adaptor head. you can by an adaptor and regular External Portable Hard Drive separately.
Very confusing I have tried downloading the APP to install but continue to receive an error message from APP site saying not found. There is no customer assistance or technical support number provided for assistance. Very disappointing. Great value but it isn't good if you can't operate to download or back up files and pictures. HELP!!!!!
It was defective out of the box! This was replacing a 1 year old WD Passport that went bad. I could not return it as it could not be formatted to protect my data so their warranty is worthless %26 I destroyed it!!! Their quality has been getting worse.
Never had such a bad experience with a hard drive. I filled at about half full with files, only to have it abruptly crash and become unmountable. I reformatted it, ran disk first aid on both the drive and partition, found no problems, and reloaded my data. Had just started backing up the newly reloaded drive to the cloud when it once again crashed and became unmountable. My recovery software can't even see it. I haven't even had it a full month - and to get a replacement under warranty I have to pay to have it shipped back to Western Digital and then wait up to three weeks for a replacement. I've barely HAD it three weeks. Hot garbage, do not buy. A brick wouldn't have wasted so much of my time and money.
Did not work - made alarming clicking noises and could not transfer files. Returned it to buy a different brand. I have never actually had a good experience with a WD drive, but I give them a shot every few years because people always insist they're good and it was a good price.... and every few years I get burned and don't learn my lesson.
