Weber 22'' Hinged Cooking Grate with 12'' Gourmet BBQ System Removable Insert

I finally got the chance to use the grate this past weekend. There's much more real estate than if you bank the coals to one side, or if you bank the coals on both sides. There's no need to turn the chicken pieces; but, I did anyway because of the irregular shapes. The grate is much sturdier than the stock grate, and the removable center section allows for easier access to the vortex, and you can use a larger size vortex than may be required.

Excellent product. Strong sturdy design, the ability to remove middle is invaluable. I would buy this grill grate everyday!

I like to buy a new cooking grate after the old one just gets too tough to clean and things start to stick. If you have never replaced your grate, its like gettting a brand new grill all over again.

Bought this as a gift for my husband, he got a new Weber for his birthday. He loves the new grate! It was exactly what he wanted for grilling chicken.

I really like the Gourmet BBQ System Cooking Grates, the flip sides make it really easy to add fuel to the fire as you cook and the removable center allows you to add a wok or a cast searing grill to your kettle. The metal bars used to construct the grill have a larger diameter than the older versions of Weber kettle grills and this makes them feel more sturdy, but also easier to clean. The only down side is you need to remember to remove the center before hanging the grill from the kettle handle, or it falls on the ground. To overcome this I have just made myself a separate hanger from a piece of wire.

Weber cooking grate that is high quality, and has several uses

My center grate is wearing out too fast like other people have noticed probably because it gets the most use. Can I buy just a center grate and not the whole thing? Is there a stainless steel version instead of plated steel? That might be mode durable and even some of the comments on the Weber site say stainless is better. I'd prefer not to have to go to a third party solution to get stainless. The gas igniter on the grill is great for lighting charcoal though.
