Western 500 Cherry Smoking Wood adds an amazing mild, sweet smoke flavor that takes grilling and smoking to the next level. It burns clean, produces consistent smoke, and gives meats a beautiful color and rich taste. Perfect for chicken, pork, and even fish. High quality and easy to use—this is now a staple in my smoker setup.
I like to smoke fish with cherry or apple wood because it doesn't over power the meat like mesquite or hickory would. The Western brand works just as well as any other brand that I've used and getting it from Walmart is a bonus because it's affordable and came with free delivery with my Walmart
I use almost every smoke wood there is: post oak, mesquite, pecan, apple, and hickory. And many times, I mix them together. So, it is difficult to say exactly what kind of flavor the cherry wood produces. But I do know that it is in the fruit category, and that it does create a milder, sweeter flavor to the meat as opposed to the harder woods like hickory and pecan and post oak. I have smoked brisket, hamburgers, and other meats with this cherry wood, and they have all tasted great. I would buy it again.
I used this cherry wood to smoke a turkey for the first time, and the results were absolutely delicious! The meat turned out incredibly flavorful and had a beautiful color. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is just down to personal preference. I usually smoke with mesquite, so I'm used to a much heavier, bolder smoke profile. The cherry wood is definitely more subtle and mild. While it tasted fantastic, I personally prefer a slightly stronger, deeper smokiness. That being said, the wood burned incredibly well and is a fantastic choice if you want a sweeter, smoother, and more delicate smoke flavor. Highly recommend for poultry!
As a long time smoker of ribs and chicken i have mostly used hickory chips. i was reading about fruit woods and chunks and gave this a try. i soak this wood 1st then add to my hot coals. it gives a great smoky flavor but is more mild in flavor and gives me no heartburn like hickory can sometimes. i also love the chunks. they last longer then chips and are so easy to throw 1 or 2 chunks on the coals that provide a long time of smoke. i highly recommend to beginners or long time smokers.
These are made by the same company that makes B%26B Charcoal, which means they're the best. I always get the apple and cherry from them because B%26B doesn't have small chunks like this. They leave behind a great flavor on any meat you cook them with.
Pretty decent cherry chunks for the price and package. Nice, dry, good (and varied) sizes - works well with ribs, pork, chicken and more.
Using this product with a bullet smoker grill. The smell of the smoldering wood is fantastic. The chunks of wood are a bit large for what you would normally need. But nothing a $15 hatchet wasn't able to solve handily I strongly recommend soaking in water for a little time to stop flare up. So far I've only used these with one meat. The pork roast was fantastic. If I was doing turkey or some chicken, I would use the pecan. The price point was very fair for the amount of wood that I got. I really like the sturdy box because it enables me to stack all three flavors atop one another next to my charcoal bin inside. Boxes are clearly marked so you know exactly what you're grabbing.
Specs say you will receive 6.75 pounds of wood chunks. actual amount for the 500 cu box is 5.5 lbs. This was a consistent "short" by about 20% on 4 boxes I bought - Cherry, Pecan and Apple.
Dont want this: Mesquite Smoking Wood Chunk Box CS I want this: i want this one Western 500 CU in Mesquite Smoking Wood Chunk Box CS and not the one you picked. Thanks
