I take the 500mg 4x/ day. They prevent cold sores. I took 1,000mg 4x/day after a very bad shingles rash- my Dr. said one of the worst he had seen. Both are caused by herpes virus. Shingles from chicken pox in childhood.

These are NOT tablets. They are caplets, like the other hard to swallow caplets. when I opened the bottle, it smelled like kerosene.
