In spite of the fact that the specs do not indicate its use for vinyl, I used this two years ago to apply a large patch/repair to my vinyl pool liner. The hole in the liner that was originally cut to accommodate the water supply/return from the pump had become significantly stretched to the point the original seals were not effective. I wanted to apply new material to both sides of the liner and I needed a bonding agent that was not a "fast setting". Using flexible, heavy gauge vinyl I cut and applied patches to both sides of the liner using generous amounts of 5200 on both sides. I allowed two days for the sealant to set before cutting a new hole through the patch. It worked perfectly and has continued to hold for two years.
I've used 5200 for a number of applications, the most critical of which was for the installation of two large brass port hole windows on a house. This was in an area that is bordered by the ocean on one side and the bay on the other. The windows were mounted with 21 lag bolts and flashed/sealed with 5200. Created an absolutely water and wind proof seal as well as adding some additional structural strength. Yes, it's pricey but it's also necessary when dealing with critical installations.
Tried this after reading some great reviews in various dingy forums re: transom repairs, specifically reattaching the PVC flooring where it meets the transom. PVC giue won't stick to wood, but hypalon glue will, yadda yadda yadda. Tried it, didn't work like previous PVC repairs. Enter the 5200. Not only did it stick the PVC fabric to the wood but it held like iron, and I have enjoyed many many hours in a boat that was destined for the nearest dumpster box.
Would not use anything else if needed to protect against contact with water
I have used the #5200 dozens times, on my repair service, and I can truly say it's the best, and the fun thing is I keep finding uses for it. I just want to see if you could put it on a plastic gas tank and seal a few small holes.
I bought this product for an RV that needed to have some areas caulked. I bought the smaller tube because I thought it would be easer to apply. Not so! Very difficult to get out of the tube. However, the product performs well and is very durable. Does take a while to dry and will stay tacky for several hours.
I've been using 3M 5200 for 15 years. There is something seriously wrong with what I received! After 3 days the product has not cured or skinned over... and this in a hot, sunny, desert dry environment. ATTENTION: if this product is purposed as an underwater sealant, this could possibly sink a boat.
took way to long to recieve. went to lowes and bought off the shelf. Bout 17 days if i remember right.Even think i pd. for better shipping. will not order from them again
I used 5200 to seal 3 glass prisms to their stainless steel frames and then to the deck two began to leak the first season the third leaked the second season. The solution was to dig out the sealer and use a different product, very disappointing.
I can t speak intelligent about something I have not received yet
