This project was fun and amazing for our whole family. Neither my children or myself were convinced that a potato could produce electrical power, but we were very excited to try. We used this electric kit to go along with our home school studies on how electricity works. I was very pleased to see that the instructions stated that we could use this kit with other food items besides potatoes. This was great for our first try with it, because I was out of potatoes. Luckily, the instructions said we could use citrus fruits, so we tried this experiment on a lemon for our first attempt at capturing electricity. The kit itself was minimal with the number of objects we needed to complete this experiment. Everything was explained well. The most difficult part my kids had, was looping the wires into the tiny holes of the electrodes. In the “How It Works” section of the direction's pamphlet, there is a small, but concise paragraph explaining the background science of this experiment. I do wish that this was written on a separate she of paper that would catch the key of my children. Unfortunately, they did not catch this bit of information on their own, I found it and read it out loud to them. We were able to have a lot of fun with this kit as a family.
My daughter loves this kit!! She is 10 and loves anything that she can use to learn, this kit is awesome for kids who are curious of how everything works and who love science, the kit it's self is very complete but you still need to use some things from home but they are things that we normally always have around, my daughter got very excited to see everything she could do and she learned a lot, I definitely recommend this.
This was such a fun experiment to do with my class. In our state, the potato clock would be a 5th grade standard. But, I knew my grade level would enjoy the concept. Plus, we could use it as a Long Term Investigation. It was definitely a hit! The kit comes with everything you need to make it work. All you need to provide is the potatoes. It's easy to set up and quick. I had different kiddos come up and help with each step. Once the clock starting blinking, the room echoed with cheers. They were ecstatic! Now, we have it set up right when you walk in our classroom. Each day, they can check the clock to see how long it will last, and if the potatoes will continue to work as they get older. So fun and educational!
Our 7-year old was so amazed and proud that he could make a digital clock work without using batteries. He brags about how genius he is that he used only potatoes to make it work. This product is such a genius idea and is able to give kids ideas that they could use alternative fruits and vegetables other than batteries to power a clock. I think this will help them explore more of the endless possibilities of things. The kit came with everything they need to discover the high voltage surprise and lots of fun.
This is a nice kit with a simple experiment. It was easy for my boys (8 & 11 years old) to do it by them self. They got defiantly excited to try it when they first saw the box, I thought it will keep them busy for a longer time, but in fact it was fast to be done in about 15 minutes. They tried the potatoes and it worked fine but the clock's numbers were so bright, it got way darker and more visible when they tried the tomatoes instead of the potatoes. They enjoyed searching the science fact behind this experiment. I loved the idea that my kids learned something new by playing and having fun. I will sure look for other experiments that is more complicated and suitable for their age.
Gave this to my son as a gift and he loves it. It was right up is ally. Setting up and getting it to work was simple. I learned this in grade school but having the ability to just go buy the kit and also allow my kids to learn it was a great experience.

Perfect if you need a science project quick or if you have a curious child. Love this, my kid is just a curious soul and wanted to know if a potato can power a clock. Even found out he can try with different fruits and veggies as well so he had a blast doing it.
The 4M Green Science Potato Clock Kit is a fun little science kit for a rainy day, while the parts are not super sturdy & won't last forever, it's good for an assembly or two. The idea is to run the clock from two potatoes. Directions are included, and are pretty good in explaining steps. You provide the vegetables. We will be using this during homeschool as a fun break between classes. Good for older kids with decent fine motor skills as the parts are small and need to be handled well. This is a nice little kit for any science-minded kid.
Apparently I was either not paying attention or forgot what I learned in science class, because I was as amazed as the kids that this thing actually worked! It was inexpensive and easy to set up. It certainly peaked our interest in electrical currents. I love when science is fun!
