This is a very cool little robot. My kids are fascinated by it. They “helped” me put it together. It's easy to put together as a 3 pen robot, but it also has two extra holders that can be used for additional markers, pens, or colored pencils. The instructions were clear and all of the materials were included (lots of small nuts, bolts, and screws with one extra of each). We've tried the robot with it at the top of the markers (makes it draw faster) and with the robot lower down on the markers (makes is draw slower). We haven't mastered the straight lines yet, but that's because my two can't stop making circles. My son loves to watch it move without the pens. It doesn't really glide like instructions say it should, but it moves a little. Overall, great little kit and fun to watch.
Had lots of fun building this with my younger children. You will need a small screwdriver and 1 AA battery that is not included. It is quite simple, a 3 legged vibrating robot with markers as the legs. I recommend doing this inside of a baking pan. I recommend this to others with children ages 10 and under. Lots of fun!
The 4M Doodling Robot Science Stem Kit has many small pieces to put together. You will need a Phillips screwdriver that's not included to put robot together. You will also need a double A battery to make it work, also not included. I think the age requirements on the box might be a little low. It says for 8 years and over, but my 14 year old gave up and my husband had to finish it. Once put together it works really well and makes some pretty cool designs. If your child likes to create models that actually do things once finished this is probably for them. I would not suggest for very young children.
This would be a great present for a child that loves to assemble things. My kid is not one of those, so I had to do it for her, and I had to ask another adult for assistance. The instructions are not the best and there are many very tiny parts. It took about 15 minutes to assemble, but once finished it functions fine. It is loud like a back massager, with a constant buzzing while it's switched on. It's fun to watch it draw both in circles and lines depending on the arm settings you select. The markers were full, moist and vivid. It held the player's interest for at least a half hour when in drawing mode.
My 12 year old put this together since my daughter is too young, but she is definitely the one who is entertained by it. I think it's great for kids who like to “build” things but it may not be enough excitement for older children. It was easy to put together and requires one AA battery to function . The legs are adjustable, allowing you to change the shape of your circle. The markers included will work but are not high quality so I'll be getting more soon. If you lay the paper inside of a box you don't have to worry about any messes :)
This doodling "robot" is quite creative and fun for us to watch once it's turned on. First, let me say, the pieces were many, but it really was not too difficult to assemble, (took about twenty minutes), and just a little tedious. There is a switch on top. The pens move in circles, but you have to make sure the whole surface that it's on is covered with paper - as otherwise, it would end up drawing on your table, as that's what happened to us. Luckily, we wiped it off quickly, so it did not stain too bad. Overall, it's a good learning toy if you have a mechanically-inclined younger person in the family. Very fun once it's done.
I received my 4M Doodling Robot Science Stem Kit yesterday and my grandson and I put it together. It came with everything you need; however a double (AA) battery is not included. If you follow the instructions you will not have any problems. Please be very careful when connecting the wires to the motor. They are very delicate and if you pull too hard on them they will break and you will not be able to connect them. That is what happened to us. Our black wire broke and when we tried to cut it, it was a bit too short and the whole side came off. Therefore, the red wire was connected but the black would not stay. They were just too short. Our Robot looked good but he would not work. Take your time and be extra careful when handling the wires. We were looking forward to seeing how it would work. I contacted the company to see if I could get another motor, waiting on their response. I f the motor is more than the kit; I will invest in buying a kit instead of a motor. I am over whelm with anticipation at see how the robot actually works.
My daughter is a child that is very creative. She is always making some type of project without instructions. It just pops out of her mind. When I saw this doodling robot kit, I just knew she would excel with this kit. This doodling robot kit comes with a LOT of pieces and an instruction booklet. My twelve-year-old daughter who is in the gifted program worked on this robot for an hour. She and I found a few discrepancies in the illustrations and instructions. The discrepancies were making the assembly of this robot a bit complicated and it frustrated my daughter quite a bit. She finally got it assembled and working. She was quite pleased with watching it draw circles and lines. The doodling robot has different adjustments that allow it to draw slower or faster. The doodling robot needs to be placed on a surface that has raised edges to keep it from falling off. My daughter covered a draw table with six sheets of white copy paper and did lots of adjustments to it. So, in the end she really liked the doodling robot. It is a bit noisy though. She was VERY excited when she saw that it made two concentric circles with two different color markers. She said, “It's pretty cool!”
This has very limited uses, but a good gift to give to a friend or charity. It has amused my daughter for days, but it doesn't do a great deal. It has limited capacity but my daughter seems to enjoy it never the less. This would possibly be a good party game/toy
My 12 year old niece and I have spent so much time in this project ( more than 2 hours) because we are really science geeks, and we don't mind taking our time to have a perfect build. The instructions were not thorough enough, so we also pulled up a you tube video for assembly. Several of the tiny screws were too small for the rivets, and we spent a lot of time trying different screws that would fit. We never got the motor cover attached because all the screws fell out. However the cover would not affect performance. It was very frustrating to try to attach the transparent cover because screw holes were too small, and to close to the plastic cover. We finally got it assembled, put the battery in, and it worked for about 30 seconds. The instructions said to check the wires that we had jammed in the terminals to create current. The problem was when we tried to take off the terminal cap with tweezers (the caps are very small), one of the wires broke. The broke wire would no longer reach to a terminal. I am still in the thinking stage trying to figure out how to extend the broke wire, and trouble shoot why it's not working. We have invested so much time, and we really wanted to see the pens doodle.
