Great price for this soft silken tofu! I didn't know if I would truly get 12 but I did. I add these to smoothies and make desserts for that extra protein and silken tofu is so darn expensive locally. As someone who has followed a plant-based diet for 20 years, t's all natural, with no preservatives, and the extra firmness means it holds up in stir-fries and sautés without crumbling. . The fresh-sealed packaging is a plus; it stays fresh until opened, and I don't have to worry about refrigeration until I'm ready to use it. I use the extra firm silken variety in smoothies for a protein boost, in savory sauces for creamy texture without dairy, and in stir-fries where a meaty bite is desired. It blends smoothly into dips, spreads, and creamy dressings, lending a silkiness that's easy to work with. The pack is convenient for meal planning, letting me portion out what I need without waste. I always try to have some in my pantry.
This is a fantastic option for people who use a lot of tofu. The expiration dates are several months in the future. I use it for stir fry cooked with Mrs Dash in a tablespoon of olive oil. The texture is fine and the flavor is good. It's a fairly low calorie source of protein.
I have already used Mori-Nu Extra Firm Silken Tofu to make two Quiches, Vegan Egg whites, and homemade Vegan Mayonnaise.. It works perfectly every time, and tastes so neutral or light that it added the perfect creaminess without leaving the expected after taste. I also love using it to make breakfast scrambler. It replaces the egg perfectly and since I am now vegan I truly appreciate this fact. I do recomend it highly.
Great price. Makes creamy sauces.
For heart-health reasons, my husband & I eat a vegan diet without oils or fats. This tofu is a wonderful asset for our pantry due to its stability without refrigeration. I really like buying a case at a time, and its coming right to my door. The product quality is always good and reasonably priced.
very nice product. And plenty of time left before experation. Box is a little hard to open but other then that it's just fine.
For some reason I can't find this brand in my area. And when I do, they charge too much. I use this extra firm for making pies - mainly vegan pumpkin pie. It is also great for whips and puddings. I won't use any other brand or any other firmness for these purposes. Wal-Mart has a great price, too!! The best part is that this tofu is shelf-stable and will last forever. FYI, this is not the same as the "regular" tofu so will not work the same in all recipes, obviously. It is softer and smoother and slightly different flavor.
I live in a part of Hawaii where the clerks in the local not-so-super markets wear bandit masks and charge close to $4 for a package of refrigerated tofu. Walmart to the rescue. A few clicks, a few days, and Fedex pulls up to my door with tofu that lasts for a long time without taking space in my refrigerator. I would say the extra firm Mori-Nu is about equal to medium in a refrigerated tofu. As another reviewer suggested, freezing the tofu will make it chewier. I prefer to cut it into slices then freeze the slices on a plastic or wax paper sheet. There's no need to defrost the slices before frying.
As a vegetarian family of five, we've tried A LOT of tofu. Although it wasn't as firm as I had expected, one package did exactly as I wanted it to do in my recipes. Especially if you freeze it first, then defrost it for your recipe, the texture turns out great. It takes on the flavor of the other ingredients well. We often mix it right in (without freezing) with scrambled eggs to boost the nutrition/protein and lower the fat. I also like that it isn't packaged in a bunch of plastic!!!
Great price! Only complaint is that the case of 12 "outdates" in 2 months so I'll need to freeze most of the boxes to extend their usability, otherwise it's a 5 star product
