These are very sturdy safety rails. My older sister had a knee replacement and was having trouble getting around. The safety rails she had only had 2 legs at the front, and relied on the toilet itself to stabilize the back. The one she had wasn't safe for an older person with mobility issues. This one having 4 legs attached to the hand rails makes it much more stable. Neither my sister or I are small people, and would have liked a little more room between the rails, but it was functional for what we needed.
I really like the Bathroom Toilet Safety rails from Equate. This one is very stable and has high quality rubber feet that stay planted. I bought this for my mother who has a disability but this is great for anyone who would like to have some assistance when getting off of the toilet, and it's useful for resting your arms as well. With it's perfectly cushioned arms, it is quite comfortable and I really am very happy with this purchase. The item is very sturdy. It's sturdiness actually came as a surprise. I have had other models from other brands, who would've thought that the Equate one excels past other brands that are higher priced. The installation was simple, no tools required at all, it snaps together so there is no question that it was installed right, if you just follow the simple directions. I installed it in just 10 minutes total and about 4 minutes to put it together. That's just great isn't it? It fits over a raised toilet seat perfectly too. And it stays put and it's ease of installation are enough for me to want one for my bathroom too. Highly recommended.
I had total knee replacement surgery and the toilet safety rails have been very helpful for me to use the toilet. I didn't want to put a raised toilet seat on my toilet. I wanted more support and the rails give me that support.
This is great for those who have difficulty standing. My elderly father was having difficulty getting up %26 down off the toilet %26 this has vastly improved his ability. It was easy to assemble %26 put in place. I would recommend.
I bought this for my father after his knee replacement. It helped him to be able to get on and off the toilet after his surgery. This is a great support and makes post surgical or elderly more independent.
Love it!!!!! Sturdy and VERY EASY TO ASSEMBLE! This was sent in place of th Equate walker that I ordered, and at first I was disappointed, but this soon became a classic case of "I didn't know I needed this until I got it". Thanks Wal Mart.
I am returning it because I do not like that either I must: leave the toilet seat open all the time, or lift the seat whenever I use the toilet and the toilet lid falls onto my back because the safety rails take up a lot of room in the back. It's a good product, but not for me.
this bathroom toilet safety rail feels like a very top heavy walker. Feels like mom could use it to stand up and lean on it to walk and end up falling forward and face planting. Felt really dangerous. We returned it. But if not used as a walker I believe it could be fine. I'm sure it's better than nothing, but it felt unstable to me in a way I didn't trust. Sorry for the bad review.
Most importantly, it does seem to have no problem with my weight of 270%23. When it comes down to it, that's what counts. However, the support sits between the top lid and the toilet tank. Bumping the rails at all will make the lid come down. If you're one who always closes the lid, this won't affect you. In my case it broke my lid and seat (the plastic was aging, so I'm not mad).
This would have been a GREAT item if it had been wider, but it is way too narrow and too cramped to use. It was easy to put together, it fit fine for the toilet, and it had sturdy adjustable legs, but I had to donate it, since there was not enough room to get my arm around or through the frame to wipe my bottom without standing up. I don't recommend it for the elderly for this reason. I recommend you get one with an adjustable back, and yes, Walmart does sell them. You will probably need one at least 23 inches wide across the back, especially if you are a tall person or a heavier person. Look at the dimensions before ordering. With an adjustable back, it will be great for anyone to use.
