We chopped wood with it, cleared some brush for our campsite and shifted logs in the fire with it as well. It’s incredibly sharp and has a night weight to it as well. It’s definitely “in your hand” without being too heavy or awkward. I also appreciate the carrying/ storage case for safety and practicality.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just what I had wanted for a long time now. This is a perfect item for a lot of my yard work. The blade is very sharp so need to be very careful. If he packaging is great and the blade cover is very useful for protection. Overall this can be used for multi purpose reasons and for me the start was yard work. It also had a very good grip which is useful especially when trying to take a swing at hard items. Overall I love this machete!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband used gator machete jr when cutting up a large branch. It was lightweight but heavy duty and it did the job. It was better for smaller branches but still worked for a larger branch. We will use this again!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Gerber Gator Machete Jr. is a great, lightweight, portable machete with a comfortable grip. However, the small size makes it only useful for smaller branches and clearing light brush. It tends to struggle against bigger pieces of wood and thick brush. If you plan on using this heavily, be prepared to sharpen the blade frequently and be wary of chips on the blade.

Bought this to clear some brush and small trees (under 2 inch diameter) at local trails. I’ve owned Gerber knives in the past and they were of good quality (though this was when they were actually made in the USA). Figured this would do the trick. Seemed pretty solid out of the package. Then I went to use it. The saw backside isn’t very good, so I gave a couple of whacks at a small downed tree with the blade side. I was completely taken by surprise as the handle broke off and the blade flipped back at me (I fortunately was not injured). Some genius apparently designed a machete with a completely plastic handle. Not metal wrapped in plastic, but a blade that ends right at the beginning of the handle and is “fastened” with plastic pins to a fully plastic handle. I don’t even know what to say about that. This might be safe or effective if all you want to do is cut shrubbery or light bushes. But someone is going to get hurt using this like you would expect an actual machete to be able to be used… Another brand that used to be worth bothering with forgoing their quality past to save what…? $0.50 worth of metal to continue the blade into the handle area? Garbage. I’d give it zero stars if I could.
