Many of my recipes call for cans of green Chiles. When I cook with them so often, I choose great value instead of name brand. To me, same flavor and texture. Why spend more money especially in these times when grocery prices are so high? Who cares about a fancy label, I care about saving money and feeding my family.
I am not sure how to talk about these as I only ever use them 'in' mixed into other things or meals. Because they are small, I often use them in with other things to make sure they go farther. I'll mix them with diced tomatoes. Or I will mix them with diced onions. Oftentimes I mix them in with jalapeno peppers as well as those other things. So it is hard for me to comment on them beyond this. I like them for the accent flavors the provide in my dishes. They are not overwhelming, but the help add a dimension and depth that would otherwise be lacking.
We really love this awesome flavor in packed in a small 7oz can. No, I don't use it to make my fresh salsa. But, when I'm using my crock pot to slow cook beef and pork roast, as well as chicken. Among other spices and seasoning, a can of these chopped green chillies go right On top. A sweet Mexican gal taught me that along with other secrets. What a difference it makes. Of course these aren't hot or overwhelming. But adds just the right flavor for shredding the meats for anything. Tacos, Tostadas, Enchiladas, etc!👍👍
For years we have been using Hatch green chiles however, the spottyness of supply is unreliable at best. These, in my opinion, are better tasting and at a lower cost. The convienence of a smaller can, we do not have spoilage near the end of the jar.
These are delicious! If you mix these with a can of petite diced tomatoes, you are basically making your own Rotel (or GV brand version) for a much better value. Very happy with GV brand veggies and beans!
Very good texture and quality. I use them in soups and dips. Must be drained for my satisfaction and use. I don't like the taste of the watery surroundings. I also like it on Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls; they add a great Southwest flavor.
My go to when I don’t have fresh/toasted jalapeño’s readily available or in any just because dish. Always good, perfect spice for entire household including kids.
I use this item regularly, in quesadillas and burritos and sometimes other dishes. I prefer great value over Ortega brand. The suze of the can is bigger, same great taste.
Living in 'green chile country', we eat LOTS of it! I keep several cans at all times, for when I run out of fresh. This Great Value brand is just as good as the higher priced 'name' brand
Taste is great. I buy the 7 oz size because it is cheaper per ounce and I repackage them in 2 oz portion cups to use in grits for breakfast. Can says peeled, but apparently they leave some of the peelings in the product. We get some skins in these that we occasionally find annoying, but there aren't any better green chilies out there for the price. Also, all of the cans I've purchased, in the past month, have a sticky substance along the bottom edge. Always spray and wipe canned goods before you open them.
