great for adhd/anxiety
our children's therapist recommended this for adhd and anxiety it definitely helps. my son loves this and keeps him focused and calmed

not really for a 5 yo.
I think it really would be better for a little bit older child because it can be hard to physically get the bases and extending pieces together and complicated figuring what pieces can go together. After we had a small row of gears together, my 5 yo. grandson tried to turn them with the small hand crank. The gear just kept coming off the base. He became frustrated and bored and wouldn't play with it anymore.
