Dried Poblano Pepper Powder, would taste even better if it was roasted before it was ground. I live in the Chile Capitol of the world State of NM, Home of Green and Red Chile, so we know what to do with whole red dried Chile pods. Otherwise, it's decent tasting and much less heat than Chipotle Chile Powder. Has a Mild/Medium kick. Has a flip top shaker cap.
I love anything chile and this did not disappoint! I've used it for chile and tacos and it's definitely evident that it's a higher caliber spice. It has a richer flavor and is very aromatic. I'm excited to try some of the other flavors now too! 10/10!
I received a sample of McCormick's Gourmet Organic Ancho Chile Pepper to sample and review. I used it first in a rub for a chile flank steak and it added a new balance to the dish. It added a subtle, smoky flavor with a mild level of spice. It helped to balance out the other spices and peppers in the rub to create a more balanced flavor whose level of heat was more palpable to those who don't like spicy food. Overall, it was a great, flavorful addition.
This is very flavorful. I used it to make some turkey chorizo and it was yummy! I tried a bit plain before cooking and I love the flavor. I can see if being useful in many Mexico and other dishes for a boost of chile pepper flavor. I like that it's in a glass jar, and has a seal so you can tell that it hasn't been opened yet when you purchase or receive it.
We really loved using the McCormick Ancho Chili Pepper spice in a variety of recipes. I substituted this for chipotle powder and homemade taco seasoning and it added a nice kick. We also have been loving using this as part of a rub when we BBQ or smoke meats, it was awesome on both chicken and skewered blackened shrimp. Would definitely purchase and use more in the future!
I received this product in exchange for trying it and providing my review. After trying this spice, I can say this is an excellent chile powder, fantastic smokey and a little sweet flavor. The quality at this price point is a terrific value. I've used it for sauces and braises, and part of a rim for a margarita that was fantastic. It deepens both the flavor and color of dishes that it is added to. The updated packaging is visually appealing as well as functional. It doesn't cake or get clumpy which I appreciate. I highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys cooking (and eating!)
Thanks to McCormick, I was able to sample the new McCormick Gourmet Organic Ancho Chile Pepper for free and amp up the flavor of my meals! The glass jar is gorgeous to look at, and very sturdy. The bottle sprinkles out just the right amount, not too fast and without clumping. The spice is aromatic, lending a mildly sweet heat and beautiful reddish brown color to my dishes. Because of the quality of the spice, I found that I was able to use 25-50% less than other brands, as the flavor was bolder and fresher, also making it more economical.
Ancho is one of my favorite chiles. This was a good example. I used it for homemade enchilada sauce as well as taco filling. The flavors were bright and clean with just a touch of heat. The color of the powder was lighter and brighter than some that I have purchased online.
This ancho chile pepper seasoning has a deep, smoky flavor with just the right touch of mild heat. It adds richness instead of overpowering spice, making it perfect for chili, tacos, roasted vegetables, soups, burgers, and we even sprinkled on corn on the cob. The flavor is slightly sweet, earthy, and smooth compared to harsher chili powders. I especially liked how versatile it was, enough flavor to make dishes taste slow-cooked and layered without making everything overly spicy. A little goes a long way, and the aroma when cooking is amazing. Definitely a pantry staple if you enjoy Southwest or Tex-Mex flavors with more depth than heat.
I like the smoky flavor that the McCormick Ancho Chile Pepper seasoning adds in place of my usual chile powder. Personally, I would prefer a bit more "hotness" but that can easily be adjusted to taste with an addition of cayenne or hot sauce depending on the recipe. I also appreciate the glass jar, with a wide neck and secure metal lid... plus the shaker lid inside is easy to remove for dispensing with a measuring spoon.
