Starter squares

Mrlrc March 30, 2026

I use these for my pellet stove. I cut up the starter squares into smaller pieces and place the pellets on top. I also add Gel Firestarter to the pellets. I light the pellets and I don't close the door, tightly, and wait about a minute before closing the door. I place the auger speed on 4 to draw fresh air into the burn pot once I turn on the "On" switch. Then, once the pellets are glowing I turn on the auger. I eventually lower the auger speed to 3, then 2 and then 1. I suggest reading the instructions for the pellet stove. The starter squares contain a wax substance.

Great for fires

Elizabeth January 30, 2026

It's -30 outside but I just had to take off my sweatshirt because I am too hot. These work perfectly and quickly to start wood stove fires. I bought a more expensive brand that screams all natural, but looked and these don't have anything bad in them and they work twice as well. Half the time, we can use part of one to start a full fire.

Works

Sara January 10, 2025

Works how I need. Cubes are small. We use a wood burning stove to heat and this aids fire starting well.

they are not like they use to be. hard to light and when you do get them to light they go out very easily.

Not so great

yep March 20, 2026

Very difficult to light. If there's wind? Forget it. Not enough combustion, need to use several on just one Chimney.

Royal Oak Fire Starter Squares = C-

WalmartCustomer January 20, 2025

My husband enjoys using this type of thing to start his fireplace fire going. The brand I usually order was out of stock so I decided to try these. He said they are junk, although he didn't use that exact word. I will continue buying the other brand, which is far superior.

Doubt if they will even start a bag of matchlight

Martin December 23, 2025

North Carolina, in a barrel, no wind, went out as did %232. Thought maybe it was me, tried my other brand that I am low on, no problem. No picture , and I did take one, because the site will not allow the upload.

Waste of money

deanna January 8, 2025

Fire starter? um no. We use a butane torch to start our fire. i couldnt find my normal fire starters at the store, so I bought these. These take forever to light, and don't stay lit. such a waste of money.

Chunks of concrete would burn better than these

anonymous June 20, 2025

1. These are impossible to light. 2. Once lit, the flame is so meager it does not ignite anything nearby.
