Probably the best of all the lightweight “aluminum” sets out there. I have dry baked cornbread, cupcake mixes, and one large “cat head biscuit” (RIP Jeff Carey) in it, using carbon felt as well as a grill (or cooling rack without feet) to lay on/line the bottom to “help” prevent burning and you can bake on open fires when camping, back packing, survival, etc. Yes it takes some practice, but it is very doable. Search YouTube for dry baking with a camping mess kit, especially Hiram Cook and Ken Click's YT channels. Enjoy 😉 Picture explaination: Picture 1: Set with the -carbon felt (1) -grill “without feet” (2) to line the bottom of the pan (6) -pot Lid (3) with “plastic knob REMOVED”. (I put aluminum tape over the screw hole, both inside and on the outside of the lid, not sure if that's necessary). -Pot (4) with the bale handle removed to make enough room for the plate to fit after the felt and grill spacers are in place. -Plate (5) with aluminum tape on the edge only to make it easier to lift off the plate which will be the top of your oven to check baking progress. Good, standard issue mess kit. I love how compact it is.

Closer to heavy-duty aluminum foil than heavy-duty aluminum pans. Kinda reminds me of those popcorn-in-a-tin things we used as kids. However, this is very nicely sized for a one-person emergency mess kit. If you have a bag for emergencies (full of solar-powered flashlights, first-aid, granola bars, flint-and-steel strikers, spare undies, etc.,) like mine, this is perfect. It all fits together in a nice little bundle, is light, and doesn't occupy much space.

Terrible design in ways I could not conceive. Perfect example of 'you get what you pay for'. Water spills out of the pot as soon as you lift it off the stove. Handle fell off the lid day 1. Measuring cup is hard to read. Pan handle is so much heavier than the pan that you cannot let it go or it'll fall off the stove. I'm surprised they didn't find a way to screw up the plate. It works fine. As an experienced backpacker I wouldn't recommend this for any human. Backpacking is already filled with work this kit would only add frustration for any beginners. Mine is going into the recycling bin.
