Good quality kayak hoist. Great value.

Ngardens November 21, 2013

The hoist was very good quality, instructions that were included were helpful. My only complaint is that the rope that was included could have been better- it frays very easily. But it works if you are not planning on raising and lowering the hoist on a daily basis. The rope can easily be replaced with a better one if needed. This hoist saves a lot of space in our already crowded garage and could be used on bikes, canoes and ladders to get them off the floor but easily accessed.

A nice well designed strongly built kayak hoist.

The web picture didn't really give you a good idea of what components were in the package. I've included some digital photos of the kayak hoist installed.

Good Quality All Around

Joyce September 2, 2016

I bought two of these to store two 11 foot, 2 inch Stand Up Paddle Boards. The quality of the hardware, straps and rope are all good. It is simple to assemble and install and has been working great. The pulley is smooth when lifting up and bringing down. The only warning has nothing to do with product quality - feeding the rope through the pulley system to work properly is impossible from the directions. I recommend watching 2-3 you tube videos as these pulley systems all seem to work the same. The directions are useless except for the photos.

Good inexpensive ceiling hoist for boat or bicycle

jazzman46 August 6, 2013

Picture and description are no help, but it's exactly like the two bike hoists I already have. The ropes are much heavier, a very good thing, and it includes two long straps for hanging (again, a very good thing). Well worth the money, just remember it's an overhead hoist only.

great product for a great price

snix78 May 26, 2014

i purchased this product to hang my kayak from my second story balcony at my apartment. I was able to bolt the pulleys right to the railing and it worked perfectly with little modification. I was amazed at the price for this product as I had been pricing pulleys and rope to design my own system before I saw this. I would totally recommend this to anyone.

Hoist

scooter December 11, 2016

The hoist was easy to install and works fairly well. Only issue is it hangs down pretty low. The straps are not adjustable so i ended uo tying them in order to shorten thrm. This allowed me to get it a littlw higher. Still kind of low though.

Good buy for storing boats overhead.

rumblingrambler September 5, 2013

Modified to store inflatable boat overhead in my garage. Works like a charm. Decent product for the money.

Excellent product for the price!

This product does exactly what I purchased it for. Two issues to be ready for: the screws and bolts are cheap, don't waste time, you need 4 quality lag bolts and 2 flat head screws. Next is my kayak has a little bit of a V-hull shape and the straps want to slide off toward each end of the kayak. I use a short strap of my own to connect between the two straps supplied to keep the lifting straps at about 5-6 feet apart and from slipping toward the ends of the kayak. Other than that the product works well and has my quite large two person fishing kayak up and out of the way. One other thing to consider is that I have a 9 foot ceiling in my garage and gives me some clearance, an 8 foot ceiling may hang a little low.

Suitable for smaller kayaks with a lot of headroom

4togrfr August 24, 2014

I purchased this lift to store our 13.5' tandem ocean kayak. It weighs about 75 lbs. I have just over 10-feet of height in our garage. The hardware included in this kit is average at best. I sheered off one of the mounting lag bolts while installing it to the truss using a stubby ratchet. That was not very confidence building in the overall capacity, but I figure with 4 bolts, certainly 50-lb each still gives a 100% safety factor. So I replaced the sheered lag for one with similar size and pressed on. The pulleys and other hardware are of OK quality #for the price paid#. Before trying to lift my Kayak the first time, I implemented a hint from elsewhere to shorten the straps by tying a knot in the middle of them. I adjusted them so the would just wrap around the hull and still easily still slip over the hooks. Then I tried lifting. I was taken back at first by the effort required. Keep in mind this is a 75-lb kayak, but I was apparently mistakenly thinking I would have some mechanical advantage from the pulleys similar to my ladder lift #Racor#. There is no mechanical advantage. You are lifting the full weight of your kayak with the two ropes simultaneously. A good grip is required and the rope can bite a bit due to it's small size, so I suggest some leather palmed gloves. I'm sure for smaller/lighter kayaks, this is not nearly as much an issue, but for my use, this aspect certainly detracts from it's value. Finally, even with the knot in the strap trick, don't expect this lift to make your kayak hug the ceiling. With it as absolutely high as I can get it #in reasonably stock form#, the top of my kayak is still 22" from the ceiling. I may try one other more extreme modification someone suggested #basically adding a 2x4 crossbar in lieu of the metal hook below the pulley#. If that doesn't get me another 10-12" of clearance, I'll need to come up with another solution to lift/store my kayak.
