Have been using this product for at least 15 years ever since learning that brown and white rice are the same plant, but the brown is more nutritious because the bran of the grain (containing vitamin B, iron, and fiber, is retained. if you are new to trying brown rice, it must be cooked just right to remain nutritious and really nice to eat. It should be cooked with more water and approximately 1 1/2 times longer than white rice – – and not so long as to be mushy and white and not so short as to have any hard kernels in the mix. The automatic rice cookers that I have tried that are labeled for white and brown did not do the trick for me. They overcooked the brown rice. I did get one cooker to work fairly well by adding a cup of water and cooking it on the white rice setting. I'm hooked on the stuff so I was willing to experiment until I got it right.
I love this rice, and its very tasty and healthy. I especially like how the plastic packaging now is very thick and prevents breakage and spills. The rice does need a good rinse usually but after that its ready to go. I buy this all the time and love it.
Great value brown rice cooks up just as moist and simple to prepare as the more expensive brand. Easy to cook and taste really good.. I love to boil mine down with chicken broth, herbs, and spices.
my dog is diabetic and has Cushings. I make it for him with boiled chicken to keep his stomach settled. He has to eat with his insulin injections. I buy alot of rice and 10%23 bags of chicken..
This rice is easy to cook, resulting in enough softness and keeping aromatic texture and flavor! Who could have expected that Walmart‘s own brand Great Value could have such excellent quality ! If the price remains as it's today, I will definitely buy it again!
Tastes like Brown rice. Ive been eating it for years. I mix it w white rice or quinioa when I need more protein in my diet. Brown Rice is superb w link sausages. You gotta try it! (Has both vitamins and minerals that you need . White rice doesnt offer this in the food chain.) Just an FYI :-)
please get larger sizes. tiny bags don't last when entire family including dogs eat it. rice is a Staple for us, more than bread, brown rice is hearty and we even add to homemade dog food, but value is lacking with microportions. we often buy elsewhere eith larger quantities and better prices
I would not have bought had I known their was no microwave directions, ONLY stove top. I used it anyway and made according to directions, it turned out find. It does take some time to let it simmer, so keep that in mind. It was delicious in my stir fry recipe.
Nothing I love more than spending 25 minutes of my time picking through a cup of dried rice to get out all the black pieces (that will break a tooth), the green pieces (that are also hard but will only cut your gums), and the really white pieces (that are also rock hard). I will not buy this brown rice again. At first, the quality seemed better but now, who knows what else is hiding in there. Do better Walmart!
This is the second bag of brown rice purchased from Walmart. Both bags had live moths and their larvae living and moving within the bag. The first bag resulted in a moth infestation in our kitchen that took weeks to eradicate. I had to dispose of a lot of food from the pantry in an effort to rid the house of the moths.
