I’ve been making a family, favorite of Angel, hair, pasta, artichoke hearts, pesto sauce, and chicken. I’ve been making this meal for my family for 30 years and I’ve been through a lot of pesto sauce including making my own, which is very expensive. I have been using this particular pesto sauce for a couple of years now. I like the rustic flavor. I have raised four children on this dish and they all make it for their own families now. And they use this particular brand of pesto.
This is a succulent pesto. It was obviously made with quality and care, with no corners cut. It is fabulous in recipes and even on its own spread over toast. The texture is perfect, not too thin or too chunky. The flavor balance is done so well. I'm a customer for life now.
Bought this in a pinch when my usual pesto was out of stock at another store. This happened to be on sale at Walmart and the Barilla Rustic Basil Pasta sauce was a hit! I really like the size of the jar much better than my usual brand. I doesn't take up so much space and it is used in usually a couple of meals.
Better than generic brands. This is about as good as home-made. Good for dipping in garlic cheese bread, veggies, but I mostly used it on Angel Hair Pasta or Fettucine w/fresh spinach steamed a little, (or frozen spinach) for a quick dinner. We add Tyson frozen cooked chicken strips (which are often on sale), bread and a salad, and it literally takes you about 1 min. prep time. I can be getting the entire meal ready while the water boils for the pasta. It is also a very affordable meal. Also good for appetizers over fresh Mozzarella on whatever type of bread or crackers you have.
Enter the green titan: Barilla Rustic Basil Pesto — a jar of pure Mediterranean power that transforms ordinary pasta into a cinematic Italian experience. The moment the lid twists open, a wave of fresh basil aroma storms the room like a Tuscan breeze. This isn’t shy, delicate pesto — this is bold, rustic energy. You taste real basil, rich cheese, and a garlicky kick marching together in perfect harmony. Every spoonful feels textured, hearty, and unapologetically authentic. Toss it with hot pasta and watch the magic unfold: noodles get coated in vibrant green glory, radiating herbaceous intensity. Spread it on sandwiches? Legendary. Add to chicken or salmon? Instant chef-level upgrade. Even plain bread becomes a five-star event. No complicated prep. No mortar and pestle battles. Just open, mix, and ascend.
Unless I am making my own, this is my go to pesto. It is so flavorful, so that a little goes a long way. It has the right balance of basil and garlic. It goes well in pasta recipes, but is great to use on sandwiches and wraps.
This tastes and looks like it was made with dry basil. The taste is somewhat bitter and it is not the pretty vibrant green shown in the product image. This pesto looks like dark green flecks of leaves in oil and is not the typical creamy texture of other pestos. I wish I had read the reviews before ordering. Will not buy again.
This basil pesto has two main flaws: the first in that they used some of the bigger stems leaving some ⅓ to ½ inch fibers in the pesto. The second, and my main complaint is that this pesto is too sour! Whatever acid they used, there's too much of it. I will not buy this product again.
So bad I immediately came to write my first review 😭 A meal ruiner for sure - tastes like wilted spinch from the bottom of the bag in addition to being waaay to salty. WHY is there spinach in this?! Traditional pesto doesnt have it, the label doesnt say anything about it, but its the third ingredient and overpowers the entire thing- I even like spinach, but this is an old slimy spinach taste
I made a huge batch of pasta salad using this as the dressing. Took a few bites and bit into a shell. Obviously I had to throw the whole batch away then. Would not recommend. 🤮
