My first time trying this type of charcoal and it did great. I smoked a 13 LB brisket for 14 hours and they kept the temperature around 250 for 8 hours before I added 4 more logs. Clean blue smoke and I was able to add my flavor of wood chunks that I wanted. Good charcoal and good price. Will be getting more after I finish the 3 bags that I bought.
If you are into slow and slow grilling this is the product for you. I smoked a brisket overnight with these and had no problem with temp swings or having to add more fuel to the cook. You can get up to 34 hour of cooking time with these depending how you set your smoker up . This the only product I use for overnight smokes. I highly recommend purchasing these if you are into low and slow cooking.
This is my second favorite charcoal next to B%26B lump it burns hot and slow and much cheaper than traditional Japanese charcoal logs. Great value great product. I love B%26B.
B%26B is one of the best charcoal's on the market and these charlogs do not disappoint. I wish that my local stores had this in stock but the shipping was fast and free with Walmart .
This is a great alternative to Kingsford Original. However, it takes a while for these briquets to really get "involved" (i.e. fully ignited) but once it is I found it's burn time and heat output to be exceptional.
It was a good buy and worked really well for a long/slow cook. I felt it really didn't get real hot, so it was a good choice for a few smokes as well as for chicken. Will buy again.
You're not gonna find a better charcoal for low and slow and hot and ready, this stuff burns great, I can get 10 hours off of a 18 inch lawn snake
I am a Professional Pitmaster and I have to say that if you want a nice clean long burn Charcoals, this is the brand that you want.
Performs much more like briquettes than lump. Do not let anyone convince you otherwise. To get the same heat and sear of 1/4 - 1/3 of a 17lb bag of lump, you would need to use this entire bag. That said, this stuff would work amazingly well for a low and slow smoke or slow cooked whole chicken. %231 - This stuff takes at least 4x longer than lump to get to grilling temp. %232 Using close to half of a 15lb bag, this stuff takes at least 4x longer to grill a steak (to char outside and medium rare inside after a rest). You would need to use the entire 15lb to get the same heat and performance from 5-7lbs of lump. Also, I personally don't feel this gives as much flavor to the meat as lump. If you do try this, go in knowing it takes 2x-3x more logs to equal the same heat of lump. This does burn incredibly long at higher temps than briquettes and maintains temp for 3-4 hours. Use it accordingly. I would not use it to sear/grill steaks. It would be good for burgers....just take 2x as long as lump. Fish? Dense like Swordfish or Arctic Char - it will cook it to well done before you get the skin to a crisp. Thin fillets like trout? It will work perfectly and quickly.
I don't us lighter fluid to start/light my fires for Q'ing. These logs take a very long time to light, burn, get hot, so you'll have to give yourself about an extra hour to an hour and a half for your cooking time. Once hot and ready, they do burn hot and long. These logs are just too much work to bother with. I just bought this bag to try out because I *Q* and smoke a lot, but not huge portions. Would be acceptable if I was smoking a turkey during the holidays. If you're Q'ing for the masses, all day long, then, yes this will help.
