Easy to install. Comfort of knowing it connects to my phone and can verbalize the issue along with warning beeps. Both smoke and CO2 in one provides added security. The night light feature is convenient and I no longer have to turn on my hallway light for quick trips in and out of the upstairs bedrooms.
Purchase was priced competively and process was easy.. Delivery was quick.. Great product, great price.. Only part that seemed odd is the delivery method, as walmart had 3 drivers bring 6 smoke detectors... (Just bundle and ship might be better way of proceesing shipping). Lastly detectors are good for 10yrs, you not going to get a smoke detector same day out of the factory, so you will need to assume most smokes will be on a shelf for 6 to 12months .. 2 of the smoke deleivered were near 2 yrs old means that the smoke detector had 8yrs left per nfpa and up requirement.. Over all I would still buy and still use walmart moving forward.
Love this! I have plenty of other smart home appliances, and this was just one more item to add! I have had it installed for about 2 months now; everything seems to be working just fine. I've used the test feature a couple of times to ensure it's working. I also like the green light feature that comes on each night when I'm turning off the light, letting me know it's online and good to go while I sleep. Power has gone off once for over an hour and it ran fine on backup battery power. I will say, the only negative is that the device I received was already a year past the manufacturing date, and with these devices having only a 10-year life (from the date of manufacture), I believe they'll completely stop working after that date so 1/10th of the life of this product was already used up before I'd even received the item. I decided I was ok with that, but it should definitely be something that you pay attention to. Sure would have been nice if Walmart had reimbursed me for that 1/10th though :-)
Bought three of these for my home. They are awesome. VERY easy to install. Just have to turn off the breaker and twist some wires together with wire nuts. I'm not a DIY guy, but I figured this out. I like these because with smoke detectors you usually have to pick 1 of the two types of smoke-detecting technology -- however these nests have BOTH. also a carbon monoxide as a bonus. They last for 10 years so that is great as well. Finally, they do speak to each other so you can be notified of smoke in basement when you are in the second story.
Installation was a breeze with the provided hardware and the trouble-free app making the network connection. I can understand the limitation on the battery-powered, model, but I wish the wired model's path light was a bit stronger; I could retire the nightlight in the hallway if it were. Great pricing at Sam's Club -- this item borders on being too expensive given that you need to replace them every 10 years or so, and you need to have so many to cover a larger home.
The smoke/co alarm itself is great, easy to install. But, the manufacturers date was two years old so I'm only going to get 8 years instead of the 10 that I should have. A note about Walmart web orders: I had to wait over 45 minutes AFTER arriving at Walmart and AFTER notifying them that I was there to finally receive my order.
I really like the Nest Protect. It is super easy to install and has a lot of nice features and gives me a lot of peace of mind. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. I had to replace 10 smoke detectors in my home recently and decided that only 3 of them would be Nest Protect to save on costs overall. That has worked out well, as I put them in the areas that are more susceptible to false alarms or that might need the extra sensor. If the price would have been better, I would have replaced all 10 detectors with these. Still, overall I'm very happy with the ones I got.
Please know that when you purchase these from Walmart, they will send you old ones. These are supposed to last 10 years. They sent me 9 year old detectors that I now have to replace again. These cost way too much to replace every year.
Purchased in June 2025, opened in August to find out it expires in just over a year. Contacted Google/Nest only to be told the warranty expired in 2017 and they would not do anything to replace it. Terrible customer service.
Like other reviewers, the units i got were old. SOME OF THEM 7 YEARS OLD. Walmart did nothing to help. They just farm out the purchase to some 3rd party with ancient product sitting on a thelf. I returning them and buying them from a reputable retailer. Beware!
