Compare the quality to the others (name brands) and it is the same. The price is less, quality the same. I am cutting price on as many items as I can, if the same quality is available, cheaper.
Great Value unbleached flour performs exactly like the more expensive brand name ones. There is definitely value in organic/artisan brands but for a budget friendly, every day option this product fits the bill. I use it for cookies, pasta, banana bread, pie crusts and have never noticed a difference between this and brand name. I always keep it tightly sealed between uses.
I have never had any problems with this flour. If something doesn't come out the way I expect it to it's because I errored or the recipe I am using just isn't good to begin with. I have used all purpose flours by commercial brands and Great Value flour gives me the same results and at a better price. The Great Value unbleached bread flour is also a great. Now we just need a Great Value cake flour.
My daughter got a few tips from an old school home made bread baker n was advised to try this flour to make her sour dough, well it worked wonderfully. She's made 2 loaves n it's amazing, our favorite bread. Will be buying more!
This is my first time to use unbleached flour. Great value brand is the one I chose. It is more economical. Name brands are expensive, this was less than $2 for a 5 pound bag. I prefer the unbleached flour.
For the price you cannot go wrong. Yes have I used better name brands yes did I pay twice as much yes did I notice a huge difference no I can't afford the prices of the higher name brands. And if you can't try this great values got it
Although I would recommend this product, I was disappointed when I picked it up. It was not in a sealed package and flower got all over the back of my car because there was a hole in the bottom. It looks like the bag caught on something and tore it open.
Made a couple of beautiful loaves of italian bread with this flour after opening the bag, as I had done many times in the past, but the bread tasted mildewy. I smelled the bag of flour, and the source of the mildew was the flour. I had to throw out the loaves, my container of flour that I poured it into, and I had another bag of this flour purchased after that bag, and it also smelled mildewy. Hate that I had to waste time and money on these. I don't know if I'm going to purchase these again for a while. I had no issues for years using these bags of flour to cook and bake with until recently.
I've been using this flour regularly for baking and breadmaking for nearly 3 years. Over the last 6 months I've noticed a gradual decrease in the quality of my breads, especially in sourdough which does not rise nearly as well as it used to. After changing flours my breads are back to their normal rise.
After purchase GV AP flour for many years, the lats 7-8 months has been a disaster, I have no idea what happened, but is for the worst, the flour does not dissolve properly, it is lumpy and even when trying to sift it, that does not work well, clumps and hard balls in the sifter. I have not seen such bad flour in my 30 years of baking. Same thing happened to the GV Bread Flour, will never purchase either, ever again.
