I purchased this strainer to replace the typical, old-style strainers with the toggle lever in the center that closes off the drain. The o-ring had failed and was leaking.
Replacing and installing this strainer was simple and to the point. Taking about as much time to unpack the item as install it, the strainer was up and ready to go within minutes. The concept is simple, there is a gasket ring on the outside (I would recommend wetting it to make installation simple as the gasket can slip up if there is too much friction) of strainer base that seals the main unit into the sink drain. Once installed, the strainer cup can be placed in the center to function as normal. If you wish to close the drain, simply depress the center of the strainer until you hear a small click. As it is spring loaded, opening the drain is simple as well; press the center and the strainer will pop up and work as normal.
While I am pleased with the product overall, there are two small issues that keep me from giving it 5 stars:
1. The holes are quite small and while great at collecting debris that would otherwise go down the drain, they do get clogged when there are soft items, such as doughs or soft cheeses, being washed off dishes. This requires you to allow the sink to drain and remove the material to allow drain flow to return to normal.
2. My second issue is that since the item sits over the current drain, I have had a bit of an issue with it moving out of center with the original drain. While not impeding the function in any way, it does give the appearance that something is not correct with the drain. To correct this issue, I have removed the unit and recentered the gasket and wetted it to make is easier to install.
Again, these strainers work effectively and are easy to install. Aside from the 2 minor issues, they are worth the price.
