Polar Herring is a staple food in my home in addition to cafe steamers which I purchase at Walmart super stores. A cafe steamer is a frozen low carb dinner heated in a microwave oven for 5 minutes. It's very good but by itself it needed something to go with it so I surfed the internet to see what would be a good side dish and the answer was fish. So, the next thing was to find a fish with low carbs, tasty, compatable with streamers and low in price. Herring was the answer and Polar was the brand of choice. Also, Walmart's prices are the lowest I could find.
Pricey, and a treat to be served on rice! DELICIOUS FOOD Thank you! PS (I'll post for ALL sellers): I don't buy for the terms(words) on the box/label/package/wrapper, so I have no clue what the words mean, nor what they'd bring to my life in excess of what's behind the words (in the package), and that I can see when I open the box/label/package/wrapper. So, like all things sent in a cellphone, I am adding a disclaimer: Other than what's inside the wrapping, I don't know what I'd be inviting to buy anything before it, or its seller/s could disturb me or others in ways that I, or they, can't bear. Please observe my (United States) constitutional rights as sellers and makers of stored things, since I'm not fond of having to plea cases for anyone, much less myself and my family.
These have a nice smoky flavor and make an easy snack if you like canned fish. Good on crackers, good straight from the tin, and definitely one of those foods that either sounds questionable or tastes great depending on your level of wisdom.
This herring snack is good in pasta, salad, sandwiches, on crackers, or just eat out of the can. Spice them up or leave them as they ard. Either way a refreshing quick addition to any dinner or light supper.
Fantastic source of protein! Low on the food chain for seafood, i.e. sustainable and less problems with toxins like mercury. Oh, and these little kipper suckers taste fantastic too! Much better than most seafood in a can, and the price is great on top!
They’re good because they’re fillets and not cobbled together mush like Brunswick have turned into. They also don’t have the chemical additive Brunswick does. They are a little fatty under the skin though. Walmart has been sending me the low sodium version when I’ve been ordering the regular one, but the product is still great.
They taste good, but once you're done eating them, you'll be left with a terrible aftertaste that is almost impossible to get rid of. Not sure why, I don't get it from eating smoked sardines, but with these you can brush and use mouthwash 3 times and the after taste is still there.
the most issue i have is the smell and look, smelled like leather shoe and looked pretty dark like a leather shoe,if you can get past that the taste it not so fishy taste with smoky taste to it. i didn't like the smell being so strong and not very good looking,so i dont think I'll be buying this again.
This was a substitution in my order. Never ever to grace the kitchen shelf again. The taste and smell are off-putting. Yes, I did taste and promptly spit it out. The fish tasted like the can it came in. The oil used was indescribabled. I threw it out and return the rest with the recommendation not to carry this product. We do eat kippers, have so for over 50 years, along with several other fish. And never had a bad batch of fish, canned or dried. That one can, not spoiled but dreadful in taste, was a first.
This product has changed. It used to be so good. It was almost like the super smokey and salty taste of smoked jerky. Now the smoke flavor is hardly noticeable, and the salt content has gone way down in taste. I personally love fish. Not it’s not all I eat, but it’ll eat any type of fish or seafood prepared any way even ceviche and love it. These have a terrible fishy taste now. Not a good fishy taste either. This is why I explained that I actually love fish. There’s a huge difference. You know when you walk past the fish cleaning table on most docks at a lake, the smell right there? That super fishy smell. It doesn’t smell rotting just really fishy and not in a good way - well that’s how these taste now I’m not even kidding. If you like the taste of the cheapest canned fish/tuna/sardines, etc you can possibly find - then go for it. That’s what these taste like now. What the heck happened. These are a FAR cry from a “snack” now. You know the second half of the name…. “Kipper Snacks”…. This is not a snack it’s hard to eat. Finishing it felt like when I was a kid being told to finish something I didn’t want. I didn’t want to waste it though. I have friends in poor nations I think of in that moment and can’t bring myself to do it no matter how bad it is. You won’t be able to finish these trust me. There are a few other brands. Only one of them still is decent. I won’t say the name but if you’re a kipper snack fan you already know.
