Fun and interesting activity for kids and 8+. If you dog the dry brick is a little bit difficult to find the stones. But if you wet the brick a little bit is fairly easy to do. It was very exciting to guess where the stones could be and to find them too. Great learning g experience.

My daughters bonded while playing with this instead of just staring at their tablets per usual. They were genuinely excited to find the stones inside and learn about what they were. We even looked up the information about them online too which then became a learning opportunity for them. They had so much fun and asked me immediately to buy more. I will be looking for other sets with different types of stones soon!

This is such and exceptionally clever and impressive educational item! I loved it. It was not difficult to follow the direction and it delivered just as described. I plan to order the other sets because when it comes to 'innovative learning technique supplies' for children, no one can beat these sets.

My daughter love this National Geographic gemstone kit. She didn't stopped digging, till she found all gems. It comes with three gemstones, brush, digging tool and manual instructions, which are educational. It's fun and you can share it with three kids. I recommend it if you are looking for steam project that is simple, but interesting and fun.

This gemstone kit is great. My 3 year old and 6 year old both loved it. We had to pour water on it like instructions suggest to be able to dig it, and it was fun! Pros: -kept kids entertained -fun to dig -3 cool gemstones to keep -informative learning guide Cons: -the tool to dig with is sharp on both sides and it is very small. I wish there were two separate tools or just one sharp side

My 5 year old son LOVES gems and searching for gems outside. We go to the local rock quarry and hunt for gems all the time (which are just pretty rocks he thinks are gems). Therefore, when he got his gemstone dig kit, he was so excited to dig for real gems and not just shiny rocks. The kit came with everything you needed to dig for them. He loved using the digger tool to break the pieces apart, then he would use the brush to carefully extract and clean each gem so he didn't hurt it. He thought there was just going to be one gem in the kit, so when he realized there were 3 after he kept digging, he was even more excited. The gems are colorful and fun – a purple one, a clear one, and a gold one. Once you extract all the gems and clean them up, there's a little magnifying glass the kids can use to inspect them. After he finished, I read the learning guide to him, which talked about gems and had a lot of fun facts. He put them in his room with all his other gems, but says these are the prettiest.

This gemstone dig was a lot of fun. The tools that came with thr kit worked well for breaking the dirt without scratching the gemstones. All in all, digging for the three gemstones took about 20 minutes. The stones are all a nice sized. I enjoyed the small pamphlet that came with the kit explaining the rocks.

A fun kit for kids. My children had a good time digging the stones out of the clay block. The block was a bit too hard for them to chisel through with the tools given but the directions recommended wetting the clay block if we had a problem and it really did help. Either way, this kit is very messy so lay out a plastic trash bag or thick towel to use as a work surface. Now my boys had opposite opinions about the booklet letting you know what stones were buried and it even supplied pictures. One of the boys wanted it to be a surprise like a real dig would be but the other one liked knowing ahead of time. I remained neutral. The booklet did offer some interesting information for all of us. In the end it was a very enjoyable project for everyone involved.

Our children (ages 10 and 4) loved this kit. Big sister read all of the instructions & included educational material to her little brother as we parents set up the box for the dig. Overall they were 100% entertained and quietly working away for just over an hour to free all three gemstones from the block of earth. The stones are small but well cut and the kids were happy to add them to their 'box of cool stones' once the activity was complete. Tips: - This thing gets sandy! - Set up outside or in a large tub/box if indoors. - The included tools were able to dig through the medium, but we also used a metal dental pick which was a boon for the kids.

We've always loved National Geographic sets like this. Educational and fun at the same time! My 10 year old son did this one. The thing that the rocks are in looks really neat, and it took my kid probably 10 minutes to dig them all out. The stones themselves are good quality. Tigers eye, amethyst and quartz!
