Upgraded to the Nighthawk CM3000 with Xfinity and the difference was immediate. Setup was quick, activation was easy, and I'm consistently seeing near-gigabit download speeds with noticeably improved upload performance. The connection has been rock solid and pairs perfectly with my mesh Wi-Fi system. Great performance and worth the upgrade.
Description: Replaced my Optimum Ubee cable modem with the Netgear CM1000v2. Have been paying for 300 Mbps speed but was only getting around 100 Mbps with the optimum modem. New modem has my speed back up over 300 Mbps. The modem switch was easy with optimum after finally connecting with a human technical support person.
Title: Giga good Description: Recently had a lightning storm that cooked my router (not Netgear). I've used Netgear switches in the past and have never had problems with them so I decided to try a Netgear modem. It was easy to setup and has been handling everything the network been able to deliver. Lately we've been seeing 940 MBs pretty steadily. Haven't had to do a re-set other than once when a firmware update was applied. Simply put- it does its job quietly and efficiently in the background like it was designed to do. I was surprised at how cool the unit runs. The previous cable modem ran pretty hot. I'm pleased.
Everything works great, but to be honest I can't tell if it's any faster. I got this cable modem because the coverage ran out on my router, so I figured I may as well upgrade both. The connection was fairly easy, but I had to contact Xfinity. The instructions said I could do it online, but that turned out to not be the case. I was pleasantly surprised that the first person I talked at Xfinity knew what to do. The whole process took about an hour but would have been less had I just called Xfinity right away. I did have an issue with the TV picture after everything was up and running. I had the previous cable modem behind the TV, and it didn't affect the picture, however, I had to move this modem a few feet away. It sits on the floor about three feet below the TV and there's no interference.
I purchased the modem after getting an end-of-life warning for my previous NETGEAR modem -- and a nice discount. It was literally a drop-in replacement. Moved the cables over, gave Xfinity 15 minutes to provision it, and I was back online I'm getting about 150mb/s more on speedtests with the new modem than I was with the old one.
I replaced my Netgear CM 500 with the Netgear CM 1000 as the 500 was very updated and could no longer get further updates. without changing my Wi-Fi at all, I went from 50 megs to 200! Everything runs smoothly… I'm thrilled (I was not thrilled with how difficult Xfinity made this to activate!)
I needed this quickly after a nearby lightning strike torched our good and reliable CM600 we've used for years with Xfinity. I figured I might as well upgrade, and the newer modem, which supports the latest DOCSIS standards and provides other changes, has given us a decent improvement most of the time. However, it's really finicky about cable power levels, and our Xfinity/Comcast service is often on the margin. Some days, the CM1000 will restart frequently due to a reliable enough, but not top-tier cable signal. Since our current max throughput from the provider is 400-500 Mbps, which the CM600 also supports, the upgrade hasn't gone as well as hoped. When the connection from Xfinity is stable, we get great throughput. Max out what we can get with the current ISP. However, when the connection status is just 'acceptable,' we may drop a lot, and the rest of the Family Unit doesn't care about an extra 100-200 Mbps if it's not connected at all. My recommendation is that if you are with Xfinity and have a plan in the 400 Mbps range, the CM600 is just fine and more reliable than the CM1000. For other ISPs, it may be a massive upgrade.
Netgear representative in another country asked myself and the Spectrum technician at my house about 40 questions, after telling us he did not understand what the problem is. He was rude and demeaning. Then told me it was working just fine and I did not need to change anything. It was not working although the package says that it should.
My cable company said they couldn't see it on line. It was a waste of time and money. I need to ship this back.
I had a Netflix modem for many years that worked just perfectly, but it finally died and I purchased this new one. I'm sure it's a good modem, but it did not work with my computer at all.
