does the job well

Elizabeth January 7, 2025

Make note of the packaging when you buy electronics! The box on this unit, and the inside packaging, had been opened. While this modem/router combo now works just fine, I had to contact tech support on how to do a factory reset. After that, the UI was easy. Of course, they push app usage, but I wish the web-based UI had a remote connect feature. This IS NOT WALMART'S FAULT!

Im hopeful I just got a bad unit, but after a week I was unable to have any wifi connectivity to any device. I spoke with my ISP and the Arris customer support. The moden aspect was operating fine but it was unknown why the wifi was not working. I did return for a replacement and will see how the new one goes.

I'm unable to give a proper review on the way that the router works or functions but I can say that it does not work on the ISP Spectrum. and it does say that it does advertise it does on the box.that's the only reason for the low scores because I wasn't able to use. it luckily it was easily returnable and the process was fast and simple if a full refund despite me being a few days past the return period with is 14 days not 30 for 90 like most item's. It clearly stated that at purchase I just overlooked it. They Walmarts customer is really becoming the new gold standard beating even apple in that area witch compared to a few years ago is a truly amazing turnaround in customer service and the agents are always so helpful and know exactly what to do.

I have been using the arris/motorala surfboard modems for a long time. My cable provider - Shental - which recentely went to another platform that combined cable with streamining videos that advertised no cables.needed for any smart tv capable of downloading their interface and rely on 100% wireless connectivety back to modem/router but had to run on docis 3.1. So i had to upgrade router to docis 3.1 from 3.0 per their requirements. It has been a very unpleasnat experience thus far with running two boxes which only provide a cable interface which i have to have for an ederley mother which has severe vision issues and does ok switching between channels but wouldn't be capable of understanding or capable of switching between streaming services. We operate two boxes provided by cable provider which connect wirelessly, one cell phone and a laptop or tablet occasionally on a 100mps plan that consistently drops the signal on all of the devices with cell phone experiencing the least of the connected devices. This router suggested an app to configure router - like simply changing wifi ssid and cooresponding passwords, setting up guest accts, etc. which i have set up my own networks for years on both personal and business settings. I found the process very tedious at best and after attempting multiple times to install a linksys mesh system to expand coverage for better overall coverage couldnt get the linksys velop which i had used for several years with old router to connect. Reset system and just left factory ssid and passwords and still have dropped signals to their wireless boxes with one only located 30 ft from this arris g34 unit with no walls or other objects in direct line of site. Considering the technolgy, advertised coverage of the arris g34 unit and several different devices that all experience similar connectivity problems they all point to the G34 unit and after reseaching reveiws this seems to be a common problem.

I ordered the Arris Surfboard from Walmart but it was sent from a vender . I needed help from Arris tech support which got my modem online, and when the Surfboard was working correctly, the tech asked the serial number so he could register it for warranty purposes. He told me that it could not be registered because it was registered previously. So I ordered a new machine and was sent a used or remanufactured device. I plan to send it back.

poor quality

anonymous September 14, 2025

The product was installed, and I began having problems in less than a month with connection issues. After many reboots and service technician assists, it was determined that the product was failing and needed to be replaced. I do not recommend this model, and in looking at other web reviews, this seems to be an ongoing problem with this model.

Overheating piece of garbage

Mikesmechanics March 7, 2026

This modem router was on the recommended list from my ISP. Setup was easy and that's where the good ends. This unit seems to overheat easily and when it does the internet connection drops, the Wi-Fi never does. When it happens you need to unplug it for about 30 minutes. Then it may work depending on how much bandwidth is being used. Absolute garbage.

Junk

davarna September 9, 2025

my old unit that was another manufacturer went out and I needed something quickly. Ongoing intermittent internet issues with this unit. Multiple visits from my provider and tech calls with Arris. Once I replaced this unit with another brand, my Internet has not dropped and is great. I'm past the 30-day point so it is not returnable and Arris is still claiming it's not their equipment. Not happy -$199 lost. DO NOT BUY

Impossible to connect following directions!

Ken August 23, 2025

I found it impossible to follow the directions they recommended by using your cell phone to get it initiated and connected. I took it to another computer person, and after trying for several hours, could not connect it either at their place. The directions are unclear and don't work as stated. We watched several youtube videos on how to get it connected and suggestions on those did not work either. Wasted many hours of time following directions that don't work! Returning it and got a NetGear moden router instead which works fine!
