My only complaint is not something I would fault the product for. Don't get an 8" bread knife. It's near impossible to get a good sawing action with one while staying inside the guides. If they shortened it though there would be problems with comfortably fitting the loaf inside. So get a 12" or an electric one. If I could do one thing to improve the product it would be to make a companion breadbox.
This is a well made "Bread Slicer" and crumb catcher I was impressed. I have used it several times since I purchased it, I would recommend the Norpro bread slicer to any one who like to bake bread. Happy Customer!
It does everything they advertise to do. Very attractive, light in weight and easy to store. I use it daily and recommend it to everybody I talk about it.
Works great. Just make sure you have a long enough bread knife to us.
Great item for slicing home made breads, gives you the perfect sized slices.
This is just what we needed for our homemade bread loaves. It works great with our electric knife too.
This product is worth the money. When I got it one of the "slats" was not attached but that is ok, I just laid it back in place and kept movin'; eventually I may glue it back in, that is a problem from the sender, not the manufacturer. Now, the product is sturdy and stable, guides my electric knife and holds up to any movement. That is why I wanted a product made of durable materials and not folding. The wood area will get cut so I use a small plastic type cutting board (that I bought from the Dollar Store) and it fits perfectly inside over the wood bottom. I figure that if I take the time to make wonderful breads with the best ingredients, it should look the best when I serve it.
I bought this so that I can make even slices of artisan bread however there isn't anything to hold the the loafs in place. I had to use one hand for the knife and the other to keep the slicer from sliding on the counter. I think that it will be better once I get a non slip pad to go under it.
IF your bread will fit (2 lb loaves may not fit flat), this is not bad. If the bread has a tough crust, it will score the wood. Overall, this is not a bad product. You do need a bread knife as other knives will not span the distance and you won't get a good even slice.
Dislike having to slice half the bread and then removing it before you can slice the rest of it. Will not allow electric knife to pull through after each slice; you have to left the knife after each slice.
