OXO Stainless Steel V-Blade Mandoline

I am officially obsessed! To be completely honest I owned 2 different mandolines before this one but I never used either because they did not feel safe to use. The bases were flimsy and did not stay in one place while in use and the food holder of each did not securely hold the item being sliced. I was always scared of having an accident and slicing off my own finger tips. However, this OXO V-Blade Mandoline Slicer solves all of those problems!!! The base is incredibly sturdy and the handle at the end of the slicer makes it absolutely sure that you can hold it in place. My favorite part of this set is actually the food holder! The four long prongs pierce through any piece of food to VERY securely hold it in place while the handle of it has a wide circular guard that protects your fingers and hands from the blade. I was able to slice 4 potatoes in less that a minute, with all the slices being perfectly uniform in width! Trying to slice perfect, uniform slices by hand is near impossible and always leads to uneven cooking but I no longer have to worry about that due to owning this mandoline! The fact that it comes with 4 different blades and the option to choose the width of the slices makes the use of this product all-encompassing. I have used this product every single day since opening it and I don't see that streak ending anytime soon! The one slight "con" of this product is that while slicing carrots, the carrots stained the white base of the product orange. However, with some elbow grease and a bit of baking soda, I was able to get rid of the orange stains. Overall, owning this slicer has already changed my life and I know I will use it all the time and for years to come! This is one of the most compact mandolins I've owned. It stores all pieces (with the exception of the round holder/pusher) inside the main compartment. It will take up less room when it's stored away and not in use. I wanted to see how well it did with shredding lettuce. And it works perfect. It is nice to see all the different sizes too (change the depth of the cut with the black handle) that you can do for cucumbers or zucchini and onions. Let me start off by saying I LOVE mandolines! I have artheritis in my hands and gripping a knife isn’t always easy, so I’ve avoided a lot of recipes because slicing and jullienning are difficult. But several years ago I discovered using a mandoline makes things so much easier! I just “upgraded” to this new OXO V-blade mandoline, and I have to tell you - it has totally revolutionized how I cook and prep in the kitchen! The previous mandoline I had wasn’t as versatile or easy to use. I’m just SO impressed with the ease of use, versatility and durability of this OXO mandoline! For the mandoline-hesitant, I have two bits of advice, ALWAYS use the cutting guard/handle (obviously) and if you’re still feeling intimidated, pick up a “Cut-Proof” Kitchen Glove for just a few bucks. Fool-proof! Even with my wobbly old artheritic grip, I’ve never cut myself or worried about the blades, etc. I highly recommend this for anyone who needs to prep crispy, crunchy veggies quickly. The different adjustments and “V” shape of the blades make short, effortless work of cabbage for cole-slaw, carrots for my bahn-mi sandwich, a huge batch of cucumbers for pickling, and even tomatoes sliced smoothly for burgers. I’ve never seen a mandoline that could do tomatoes! I’m so impressed! It’s also super helpful for batch cooking and prep too; we were camping and didn’t have a food processor but I shredded enough potatoes for hash browns for 30 people in just minutes, and with a quick rinse and switch of blades, sliced onions and peppers for omelettes before they even had all the eggs cracked. Anything Oxo is usually A . This thing has too many release and adjusting buttons. Its sharp and compact when u figure out how to fold it up

I love all of the different slicing options this product has! It was a little bit tricky to reassemble correctly, but once reading the instructions I got the hang of it pretty quickly. It's awesome that all of the different blades conveniently store inside the base, and folds up pretty easily. My only concern would be how it holds up over time. I got this a week ago it has four different settings it has four different blades so there's several options to use I used it on a cucumber and Julianne the Cucumber for a Salad Topping and I also used it out of 1/4 inch and it made the Cucumber look like pickles and I liked having the look up made it look pretty I plan on using it to make crinkle cut potato chips and some squash I'm with the straight blade and it was also easy to rinse off the blades I did wish it was easier to get the blades off the Storage as they each have their own little spot definitely read the directions so you know how to get the blades off the storage and back on the storage site I liked the leg cuz it helps you go in a downward motion which makes it easier to cut it is best to read the directions because the the blades are sharp and two help you learn how to get the blades on and off the product on the back side it's where they're stored so I wish there was a way to keep the instructions with the product while you store it away when you're not using it [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I did enjoy using and it did save me a lot of time on cutting. I wish it did have a way or maybe I haven't found the way to cover the blade when not in use. The carrots did stain my device a little.

This is a great tool, but it takes some getting used to. It thinly and/or evenly slices solid fruits and veggies in a breeze (potatoes, carrots, apples), but it's a little trickier on softer foods like tomatoes. I used it to julienne some carrots for a salad, which was so much more pleasant to eat with thin slices rather than large chunks of carrot. All the blades store sleekly inside the mandoline itself, which makes it nice and easy to store. It comes with a handy little booklet, which tells you how to snap the blades in and out and interchange them, although the illustrations can be a little hard to follow. The dial on the side of the tool allows you to easily adjust thickness, and is color coded to correspond to some of the specialty blades, which is a nice feature. I found the solid slice blade easier to use than the julienne blade (my carrots kept getting stuck!) but it works nevertheless. Ultimately, I'd recommend this tool, but don't rely on it too heavily without practicing some first. It takes some getting used to! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
