Great mackerel keto pie

Pamela June 21, 2025

This stuff is great! Here's my mackerel keto pie recipe: Mix two cans mackerel (with the brine) and 1 cup each coconut flour, sour cream or whey powder, grated cheese, refried beans, cooked beans (drained), and cooked kale (a whole bunch raw), 1 tsp each salt, gelatin, xanthum gum, 2Tbs each onion powder, chopped parsley, chopped garlic. Set aside. Make a crust with 2 cups coconut flour, 2 tsp each gelatin, xanthum gum, paprika, salt and cut in 2 sticks butter and ½ c lard. Save 1 cup of this for topping, press the rest into a greased casserole dish. Pour mackerel mixture in and add topping. Bake at 350 for 50 minutes. Serve with a generous helping of hot pickle relish mixed with sour cream. Enjoy!

This new brand of mackerel is horrible

WalmartCustomer July 31, 2020

My family has bought canned mackerel from Walmart for many years and enjoyed it in salad like one would make tuna salad. I have no idea the brand name but it was a red can. Recently we purchased 4 cans of this Pampa brand and were shocked at how gamey and harsh it tastes, no where near as good as what Walmart carried in the past. We wish they would go back to the brand they sold in the past. This was awful and we will never purchase this brand again.

Damaged cans as always.

Anonymous March 3, 2026

It's good product but they always pick damaged or dented cans. All four cans I ordered today were crushed so bad.

Lots of bones and fins

Rachael February 12, 2023

So, canned mackerel can make a good tuna alternative salad, this brand not so much. If you don't mind picking out fins and bones then you won't mind. The can I bought said some bones might be left it fish, fair. However there was literally whole chunks of fish with bone and fins still on. Not what I was looking for.

Why is something with a warning containing chemicals that may cause cancer still doing on your shelves? I regret eating this before now that I read the label! Dumping it!

Never buying this brand again

Kelli August 26, 2023

There wasn’t much meat in the can — all 4 cans . The can was only half full of fish , the rest brine . I’ll never buy this brand again . I was planning a big batch but didn’t have enough to feed everyone . Very disappointed in this brand
