It's very unfortunate to see so many negative comments regarding this grass seed, we specialize in agronomics and soil biology and have been using this particular product for years with 100% success, you have to know what you're doing to plant a lawn and have no weeds
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried this grass seed for a Influenster campaign. I was unable to post in the campaign so I thought I would review it here. The grass seed works quickly especially in shady areas and I would recommend it to anyone who has trouble growing grass in areas that have low sun.
This product has worked far better than I anticipated. The bare spots in my lawn have filled in completely in less than 4 weeks. I watered twice daily for 5-10 minutes and waited to spread the seed until temperatures dropped to the 70-85 range in the fall.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After an intense heat wave with no rain for over two weeks, my yard was looking pretty abysmal. I purchased seeds sprouted within just a few days and now most of the yellow is gone! It's a great value for an affordable price and I would definitely buy it again if needed.
I'm in Queens NYC. We have killer unfiltered sun nowadays that scorches everything or downpours that turn your lawn into a virtual rice paddy plus I'm 500 feet from 8 lanes of constant traffic and in the flight path of 2 airports - pollution galore! Tried Scotts - it fried my lawn and left big bleached holes. Tried a couple so called organic brands, got weeds or nothing. Pennington grew EVERY TIME. BUT...you MUST cover the seed with a little topsoil particularly in bad patches. You must reapply at least twice in the spring. These seeds are great but they need a little protection. So either cover with soil or a lawn blanket stapled to the ground, water regularly and WAIT. It takes about 3-4 weeks to get baby grass and another 4 weeks or so to get to a regular height. The result is GORGEOUS. Patience and some TLC pays off! Thanks Pennington!
Planted this grass seed in the fall after properly prepping the soil. Lawn grew within 6 days, nice grass seed. Then in the spring my lawn was the first to green-up on the block. If you follow directions and prep the soil properly and do not let the seed dry up, you can't go wrong.
Seems to have a good blend of grass seed that look great once you get them growing. I'm a renter in a 2 family home and to keep rent down I took on all the care and maintenance around the property. I think working outside on the lawn is fun and I want it to look the best it can, for as little money as possible. The lawn was previously not well cared for, basically just mowed once in awhile. I decided to top dress and overseed the lawn, so thats what I did. My lawn is pretty small, with the front, side and back equaling around 1,000sf. I have no idea what kind of grass it is originally except some of it looks like maybe Kentucky 31 or some type of forage fescue which I dont like. I tried to dig out alot of it but still some remains. I raked out all the dead brown grass and thatch and filled in low spots and topdressed with peat moss, just a thin layer. I spread this sun and shade seed all around with just a hand held broadcaster which worked well in my situation. I had some issues with flocks of little birds feasting in the yard, so those areas I spread more seed then a little more peatmoss over the seed, just to hide the seed but to have the seed almost showing. I made sure to water the lawn at least in the morning, then in the afternoon if it needed it. I got lucky and had rain a few days in a row, then a day or two after the weather got better I noticed new grass growing everywhere. From then it got thicker every day until most areas filled in. I used a soil test kit from the hardware store to see where the PH and NPK levels were at in the soil and it showed it was very low in nitrogen and phosphorus while potassium was ok, also the PH was around 5.5. I put down some fast acting lime along with some fertilizer I had mixed together to give the lawn the right amounts of what it hopefully needed, basically mixed regular lawn fertilizer with some starter fertilizer at a specific ratio I came up with. The lawn is looking better and better daily now.
Bought this 20 lb bag of seed and followed the instructions on putting it on my lawn. But after about 14 days I noticed more clover growing than grass. With the rain we have had in the past few days, the clover is out pacing the grass. Now I have a yard with half clover and half grass. I doubt if I'll buy this brand again
I tried twice to get a small area to grow. I watered and didnt mow that area but still no success to speak of. Should not have believed the ad. Very disappointed.
The seed never germinated. I used it in the spring and had very poor results so I waited until the fall to try it again and after 21 days it did not germinate at all and I followed their instructions. I contacted them and they told me too bad the warranty is only 60 days. They suggested maybe the product was stored improperly before I got it or it got wet. So I wasted my time contacting them and using their seed. Never Again!
