[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried this grass seed for a Influenster campaign. I was unable to post in the campaign so I thought I would review it here. The grass seed works quickly especially in shady areas and I would recommend it to anyone who has trouble growing grass in areas that have low sun.
This product has worked far better than I anticipated. The bare spots in my lawn have filled in completely in less than 4 weeks. I watered twice daily for 5-10 minutes and waited to spread the seed until temperatures dropped to the 70-85 range in the fall.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After an intense heat wave with no rain for over two weeks, my yard was looking pretty abysmal. I purchased seeds sprouted within just a few days and now most of the yellow is gone! It's a great value for an affordable price and I would definitely buy it again if needed.
It's very unfortunate to see so many negative comments regarding this grass seed, we specialize in agronomics and soil biology and have been using this particular product for years with 100% success, you have to know what you're doing to plant a lawn and have no weeds
I'm in Queens NYC. We have killer unfiltered sun nowadays that scorches everything or downpours that turn your lawn into a virtual rice paddy plus I'm 500 feet from 8 lanes of constant traffic and in the flight path of 2 airports - pollution galore! Tried Scotts - it fried my lawn and left big bleached holes. Tried a couple so called organic brands, got weeds or nothing. Pennington grew EVERY TIME. BUT...you MUST cover the seed with a little topsoil particularly in bad patches. You must reapply at least twice in the spring. These seeds are great but they need a little protection. So either cover with soil or a lawn blanket stapled to the ground, water regularly and WAIT. It takes about 3-4 weeks to get baby grass and another 4 weeks or so to get to a regular height. The result is GORGEOUS. Patience and some TLC pays off! Thanks Pennington!
Last year maybe 25% grew. This year removed dirt replace with new top soil planted seed. Watered , and maybe 30% has grown
Bought this 20 lb bag of seed and followed the instructions on putting it on my lawn. But after about 14 days I noticed more clover growing than grass. With the rain we have had in the past few days, the clover is out pacing the grass. Now I have a yard with half clover and half grass. I doubt if I'll buy this brand again
I tried twice to get a small area to grow. I watered and didnt mow that area but still no success to speak of. Should not have believed the ad. Very disappointed.
We had many large bare spots in our lawn. We bought a rear tine rototiller. It went deep to til the soil. We then added top soil and incorporated it in. Planted the seed in early April, in western NC, 3 20 lb bags.Totally about $200.00. Took a while to sprout, watered as directed. Looked good for a couple of weeks after it sprouted. We did have a dry spell, but seed says drought resistant? We kept watering. I don't know if it went dormant, but we have had a lot of rain the past 2 weeks. It was a lot of work and a lot of money and it looks like it did before we planted and followed all directions.
Planted in an area previously covered with mulch....removed all mulch....worked in new soil: turf builder law soil....smoothed, spread seed, watered with hose....added bonus a couple of days of spring rain did the watering for me. Resumed hose watering....Seed still there and not a single blade of grass in sight after 2 weeks, maybe a bum bag?
